So, with all the talk of 50th anniversary events over the week, it is an ideal opportunity to announce the 50th anniversary event at Brooklands. This has been in the pipeline pretty much when the sun set on the 45th event, but it was best to get a lot of background stuff sorted before making announcements.

The date is set; Sunday 8th September 2019.

From mine & Calvin's perspective, there was a lot learnt from the 45th event that we can improve upon and there is plenty of scope for improvement. We can definitely make this event bigger & better than before, especially with the boom just in the last couple of years with social media. But it can't be done without you guys, so any suggestions that you may have we will welcome. The 45th was a great success with 218 Capris and over 1000 visitors. Can we make it more? Of course!! All types of models, original, concours, rat & scruffy, all types of engines, Crossflow, Pinto, 24V 2.9, V8, modified, any Capri welcome. Lots more to announce in the next year!

If Mark also organises the other event we will have a great year to celebrate.

The 45th was the firstt time for me at Brooklands Kris and it was a superb event, well organised and well supported. The way you guys chose the cars for the embankment was ultra fair and well received!
If you can better the 45th then fair play but you'll have your work cut out! :thumbup1:
2019 is gonna be a fun year!!

Was at Brooklands for the Autumn breakfast meet, having a wander round and thinking what it will be like in 2019 with all the Capris. So much planning to do!

Going to be ready for this. Not much left to do on mine. Few bits of wiring and the headache of putting the trim back in.

Exactly one year away today! How scary!

So a quick rundown on what you might expect on the day & would like to get an idea of interested people for certain events on the day.

Merchandise - Stickers, TShirts but anything else people want from the day - lanyards, mugs? Please suggest!
Photos/Video - Entry photos & a DVD will likely to be produced again.
Banking/Finishing Straight photo selection - something to be discussed in greater detail, and what cost to each participant?
Test Hill - we know it's minimum 6 inch ground clearance required, and we think it will be minimum cost £400 for 10 runs - what are people prepared to pay?
Trade stands - A good variety!

And as I always say, if you meet new Capri owners, push the word far & wide!

    Kris

Test Hill is the famous hill at Brooklands that was made to test cars years ago on their ability to get up hills, especially once engines were tuned or just more powerful. Things like Austin 7s, scooters, Piaggio 3 wheelers etc. It's very steep (off the top of my head I can't remember the angle) & a lot of modern cars have no issues. More info is on Brooklands Museum website, and on the day, we will require a minimum of 20 applicants to pay a fee for 3 runs each (still a lot to be decided on fee, and more entrants equals less runs each).

interested in attending the event, keen to do a "big one" for the 50th just not sure what. Went to the castle combe event for the 40th and as good as it was I keep seeing photo's from events at Brooklands and fancy giving it a go.

Are entries open yet and if not when will they be, is there a website or something? Is it a 1 day event?

    Thanks
    Stuart

Yes a 1 day event, no pre entry booking, unless you want to do the test hill, which will require a fee (and 6 inch ground clearance for your car). More details will be on www.surreycapriclub.co.uk, facebook, and other social media.

I'll try and pop along and borrow the last Capri 280 off Ford if there's somewhere safe to park it - maybe the oldest Capri there. I maybe spoiling the surprise but there's also a rather special Capri prototype (well replica) going too.

190 days to go! That's how long there is until this grand event! So much to do and so many other anniversary events to go to as well! So let's give you an update on the day.

As soon as you drive in you will be guided by our marshals with many other Capris of all models and styles. Our merchandise is available on the day. We will be drawing the raffle for the banking photos and everyone can come to view this. Test hill will be open to those registered and paid (see our website for full details on restrictions & cost) so watch the Capris go up a hill steeper than you think! We'll give everyone time for lunch and then awards will be presented. And, as a treat, Steve Saxty has spoken with myself & Calvin last week (thank you very much for that teleconference) will be providing the heritage 280 Capri and others as he states above and will give a talk about Capris. This and more will make this one of the best events to remember, turning 50 is a massive celebration so let's do it in style! We want you there as part of the Capri collective!

149 Days to go! So let's get some more exciting news out!
So Steve has now confirmed that the very last 280, and will also be happy to sign any copies of his book. Surrey Capri Club is proud to have Steve on board, and hope to arrange more exciting stuff on the day.
Now, Steve's plugging his current book, and if anybody has been keeping up with updates, he is writing a second book. I have the first book now, and I can't believe how comprehensive it is. I have a lot of knowledge of Ford models, concepts & codenames, but this is filling in more gaps than I ever thought possible. So I'm not including the link again, but just go buy it. If you ever wanted to know Ford's history & key players, this is the book to have.
It's just another step towards making Brooklands one of the best events this year!

I'm not to shy not to add a link - here it is to the publisher's site. https://porterpress.co.uk/collections/ford-collection

Best of all is that I wangled a paid of discount codes out of him that last through April/May.

    1. Insert code "Standard7.5" at checkout and save £7.50 on the Standard Edition
    2. Insert code "Collectors10" at checkout and save £10 on the Collectors Edition
The deal is especially good on the Collector's Editon is especially good as it's selling out.

Ok guys 15 days to go!

Things have been a little hectic hence the reason why nothing has been posted on forums, where facebook is easier to access & post. But with just 2 weeks to go, we're getting ready big time!

So, as with some of the 50th anniversary events this year, Steve Saxty will be there to mooch around, have a chat with owners etc. I'm pretty sure at some point we'll get a public talk off him. We have Capris from across the land & the continent, with international crews from Belgium travelling far to get to the UK. Test Hill will be active, and sometime past lunchtime we will have the Banking photo. Unfortunately we have misinformed everyone, it cannot be a decision made by a raffle like we had planned, so each vehicle will be chosen at random by our Surrey Capri Club representatives who will pick 30 cars to go on the banking. And then mid afternoon, trophy giving, with thanks to Classic Ford Magazine for sponsoring these.

And we have some unique made merchandise, with hand drawn artwork created by ChrisCapri. Polos, Mugs, Tshirts, Coasters & Placemats are available.

Polos: Choice of White, Grey or Black. Sizes S-4XL. £20

Tshirts (not pictured). Choice of White, Grey or Black. Sizes S-4XL. £15

    Mugs. £7

    Coasters. £4

Or buy Mug & Coaster Set £10

Placemat (as bigger version of coaster above). £5

If you wish to buy in advance please message me. We have a bank account you can make a bank transfer to. With our merchandise, some stock may be available on the day, however if you want something the order will not come until after the event, especially with clothing.

But, as with event, it's YOU who make the event as big as what it is, so get yourself organised, and if you're going to Dunton the weekend before, fantastic. Daren has worked hard to put his event on so it's worth going to.

There's definitely a good way of celebrating a car's anniversary, and this is the way to do it. The team at Surrey Capri Club will make you feel welcome & we want everyone to have a fantastic time on the day.

    Get ready to celebrate!

Looks like I can't make it after all.....
Had a very blowy exhaust that needs fixing, and a nasty oil leak from the rocker or oil return that was giving the exhaust a nice coating, which wasn't very safe. I had a mechanic booked in for monday to get the work done, but he had to cancel:( Got no other time (and now, due to a suprise expense, no money either) to get it fixed before brooklands. So I shall just be there in spirit, hope the day goes well for all of you!

As nice as that would be, I think I'd feel worse than not going at all!

If you had the parts to fix the car would you do it yourself or do you still need to pay someone to do the work?

Would still need someone sadly, the exhaust is going to need cutting out and re-welding at points plus new parts fitted. And as for the oil leak, I've got a feeling its the rocker gaskets, and ive got no sealent or torque wrench to tighten it correctly.
That and with the week how it is laid out, I've got till dark this evening to do it

I rang brooklands today and any capri that turns up can go onto the site itself via the staff entrance and pay on the gate

Saw the Capripower area (well.. saw the show plates) wasn't able to park there as I just got told to follow a car in front and was out near the back up a hill so f-in steep I could've sworn it was the test hill lol! Thank god I adjusted my handbrake cable the other week when I refitted the axle! Kinda expected to come back to find my car doing doggy with the car in front but luckily the handbrake held up well. Just wanted to say well done to all who made today so great (all who arranged it and all who attended). Was a great day out and the museum helped to break up the day for the kids.

However... £2.75 for a 500ml bottle of coke? Lol kids had the juice instead. I expect to see a good spread in next months classic ford magazine.

Great day out indeed, very busy and pleased that the old girl didn't overheat despite 30 minutes + in the traffic waiting to get in, In fairness to the Surrey Capri Club they had both lanes open for entry, just the sheer volume of Capris. I found myself sat alongside @mgentry90 approaching the gate, thought I recognised the 'plate
Test hill was fun to watch despite only 8 cars having a go. Saw some really nice examples and was also pleased to meet other owners with cars that, like mine, are a work in progress and somewhat less than concours.
    Roll on 2024!

The queue was somewhat long. (Perhaps a mandatory pre pay for entry could speed this up?) the cars seemed to shuffle a bit in the queue, were you the chap in the hat? Or the mk1 v8?

So glad you enjoyed the day. I'm a Surrey Capri Club member and I know the effort that went into organising it. I had a wonderful time; I always do; so many friends and acquaintances that I rarely see all in the same place at the same time and I always make new ones too.

I was a couple of cars behind you guys on the way in, the entrance was madness like no other event I have been to and to be honest I was feeling like turning round and going home by the time I got in.
Luckily things got better once inside, nice people, awesome cars and good things to keep the day moving along such as the test hill and the photos on the bank.
Well done to kris and everyone organising beyond the gate, good job!
Ended up parked just up from you @mgentry90 and then didn't see you by the car at all which was a shame as its one I have followed on here all the way through and I might have been a little excited to see on the way in.

Neither I'm afraid, the V8 Mk1 was nice, I was behind that in my ratty Laser (it was nice to see mine wasn't the only work in progress today).

I had a great time yesterday at the Brooklands event. Many thanks to everyone who helped organise the event. I really enjoyed it. So many lovely cars to see and some, like mine, which were WIP.

My car had been having a couple of issues recently and I wasn't sure if I should drive it to the event or come in my daily. I thought I'd regret it if I left my Capri at home so I put a toolbox in the boot, crossed my fingers and set off on Sunday morning (from Bristol). Well, I made it to the event. However, I was one of the people with a bonnet up in the queue to get in! Poor car didn't like that. It just needed a top up on the radiator and was good to go. The journey home was a little more eventful. I had to stop many times. The worst was probably the stretch of M4 near Reading with the 50mph zone. There isn't a hard-shoulder and the Sunday evening traffic was busy. Please don't breakdown! Lucky made it to the Services looking like a steam powered Capri! Anyway, finally made it home and put the car away in the garage.

Interestingly, there were about 300 cars there yesterday. I didn't see one other Capri on the whole journey from Bristol and back except within half a mile of the event!

It would be great if someone could do a little write up here detailing the owners brave enough to run up the hill, trophy winners and bits like that. Unfortunately I left before trophies as to not torture the family to much but would love to take a look

I'll second you on that one. I suppose there's loads on Facebook and Twitter but if, like me, you're not on either of them, there's hardly any feedback on the event and I was so busy meeting people that I didn't take in all the details at the time.

Talking of meeting people, it was great to see you yesterday Gary/Lord Flasheart and an honour to be allowed to sit in Biscuit. My only regret is that I didn't get a chance to show you over my own car. Hope you enjoyed the event as much as I did and that you had a safe journey home.

Happy to oblige, Sir. Having problems posting, though, as the forum tells me my images are too big. But here's one for starters.

chaps & chapesses.. I have taken the liberty of copying the event photos over onto a separate post in the Events Photos section ..
such a great event will be good to keep the attendance & records separate to the invite ...
from what I have seen on fb - the Surrey Club Team should be commended

Somebody will do Dave, but to be honest have to recover properly! It was rewarding but very draining!

Since Calvin never comes on here nowadays our official figures were 294 Capris & 1300 visitors. So we didn't quite hit 300, so this is likely to have been the biggest Capri gathering in the UK (but if anyone has bigger numbers from Capri shows of old please quote!)

However, all of Surrey Capri Club have made this happen, and everyone from forums, social media & word of mouth came together, so it's you that mattered.

I'm still kind of recovering (stress from the last few days) & we have our own club meet tomorrow, but eventually some reports will be written !

Hi mags, it was lovely to meet you too & you are most welcome to park yourself in Biscuit :)

Had a great day, meeting up with friends, so many cars to look at as well as the Brooklands stuff ;) ..... as some have already said, the M25 was chocker on the way home so I trusted Tom Tom to take the M4 & then join up with the M40 at Wycombe, smartest move of the day I think. Overtook a white Tickford who then stayed tucked in behind me all the way to the split at the M42, kinda cool really :)

Let me also add my praise to Kris and Calvin - plus the endless marshalls that provided cheerful support, all unpaid. Being stuck in a tent all day meant I barely saw the cars sadly so I know what it must have been like for the team making it happen. I shot some nice pics that I'll pass to the Surrey club so there's maybe a link - or post here if you'd like more.

Sorry Dave, yes article in Classic Ford out now. Unfortunately due to a number of changes within the club, plus some personal situations things haven't been so easy to report on. I didn't really get that many photos of the day so I relied on everything that was posted.

I think that is was fantastic the Capri community came together as they did with an event never likely to be repeated for the scale. However, I am already working on (alternative) venues for the 55th which should give greater creativity and scope.
