So, with all the talk of 50th anniversary events over the week, it is an ideal opportunity to announce the 50th anniversary event at Brooklands. This has been in the pipeline pretty much when the sun set on the 45th event, but it was best to get a lot of background stuff sorted before making announcements. The date is set; Sunday 8th September 2019. From mine & Calvin's perspective, there was a lot learnt from the 45th event that we can improve upon and there is plenty of scope for improvement. We can definitely make this event bigger & better than before, especially with the boom just in the last couple of years with social media. But it can't be done without you guys, so any suggestions that you may have we will welcome. The 45th was a great success with 218 Capris and over 1000 visitors. Can we make it more? Of course!! All types of models, original, concours, rat & scruffy, all types of engines, Crossflow, Pinto, 24V 2.9, V8, modified, any Capri welcome. Lots more to announce in the next year! If Mark also organises the other event we will have a great year to celebrate.
The 45th was the firstt time for me at Brooklands Kris and it was a superb event, well organised and well supported. The way you guys chose the cars for the embankment was ultra fair and well received! If you can better the 45th then fair play but you'll have your work cut out! :thumbup1: 2019 is gonna be a fun year!!
Was at Brooklands for the Autumn breakfast meet, having a wander round and thinking what it will be like in 2019 with all the Capris. So much planning to do!
As you know. Im down for helping to run it, Marshall extraordinary I'm trying to get the 4 cars i care for coming! My 2.8 My 2.0S My dads 2.8 Family friends 280 Turbo Technics (Not been on the road for 20 years)
I'm aiming to have the 1.6LS finished for this! Would be great to bring the laser and 2.8 aswell for the complete trio!
Hoping my car will still be running well for this event. Going to be the event of the year for me. So looking forward to seeing you all.
I'm keen - coming across from Somerset - would be good to travel in convoy with the Devon and Cornish boys (and girls)
Going to be ready for this. Not much left to do on mine. Few bits of wiring and the headache of putting the trim back in.
Exactly one year away today! How scary! So a quick rundown on what you might expect on the day & would like to get an idea of interested people for certain events on the day. Merchandise - Stickers, TShirts but anything else people want from the day - lanyards, mugs? Please suggest! Photos/Video - Entry photos & a DVD will likely to be produced again. Banking/Finishing Straight photo selection - something to be discussed in greater detail, and what cost to each participant? Test Hill - we know it's minimum 6 inch ground clearance required, and we think it will be minimum cost £400 for 10 runs - what are people prepared to pay? Trade stands - A good variety! And as I always say, if you meet new Capri owners, push the word far & wide! Kris
This sounds amazing . I have been at Santa pod and Silverstone for the last 4 years with an Auto jumble / parts pitch and I very much want to be at this event too . How do I get a pitch booked or reserve? Thanks
Test Hill is the famous hill at Brooklands that was made to test cars years ago on their ability to get up hills, especially once engines were tuned or just more powerful. Things like Austin 7s, scooters, Piaggio 3 wheelers etc. It's very steep (off the top of my head I can't remember the angle) & a lot of modern cars have no issues. More info is on Brooklands Museum website, and on the day, we will require a minimum of 20 applicants to pay a fee for 3 runs each (still a lot to be decided on fee, and more entrants equals less runs each).
interested in attending the event, keen to do a "big one" for the 50th just not sure what. Went to the castle combe event for the 40th and as good as it was I keep seeing photo's from events at Brooklands and fancy giving it a go. Are entries open yet and if not when will they be, is there a website or something? Is it a 1 day event? Thanks Stuart
Yes a 1 day event, no pre entry booking, unless you want to do the test hill, which will require a fee (and 6 inch ground clearance for your car). More details will be on www.surreycapriclub.co.uk, facebook, and other social media. Kris
I'll try and pop along and borrow the last Capri 280 off Ford if there's somewhere safe to park it - maybe the oldest Capri there. I maybe spoiling the surprise but there's also a rather special Capri prototype (well replica) going too.
