Right, l have had my Capri 10 years, it was restored about 12 years ago, it's a Ziebarted car, so not completely rotten, but needs tlc.
Now posting that picture was a doddle, you will now get bored of me posting pictures

As you can see, not a lot of room at the moment to get around car. I removed the rear valance because it was ropey, also chopped out the last 18" of the chassis both sides, got a mint pair of replacements off Nial, cheers mate, they cleaned up a treat.
Sitting currently on 7 spokes, but have the original alloys, plan is to restore it to nearly original, and l do have a stainless steel system as well as a Janspeed, probably go with the stainless steel system, that would be probably my only mod, oh and possibly a 5 speed box.

Popped the bonnet on the old girl, and remembered that for some unknown reason the chassis number on the inner wing had been fillered over, no actual rot, just about a 1/4" of body filler!!! Rails and most of the under bonnet area extremely sound, but I am sure to find some rot some where there, tomorrow should be able to move it to actually work on it. IMG_20200402_162421.jpg

Plenty of spare wheels discovered in my bottom of the garden man cave, to be replaced with a summer house, in the interests of keeping peace and sanity!! IMG_20200405_161056.jpg IMG_20200405_161038.jpg

Ghia Seats .. best seats ever fitted in a Capri ..
even in my pinto Mk1, I was lucky to get a set in, and even before the rules required you to wear seat-belts,
I had my harnesses in, and the fit over the seat, under the head rest perfectly..
when I built my GXL, I used proper seats at the build, but soon got a set of Ghia seats fitted ..
I have no doubt that they are the best, even for long distances, even better than the Recaros I had fitted in Rumbly, both 'Shark Grey' velour, and the really smart 'Half Leather' variant ..

worst seats of a modern style - the 280 full leather Recaros, I just slide all over the place in them, cold seats to start with, then very quickly sticky - Rubbish !!

Interior is to be honest, is in really good condition, only bad bit is centre console arm rest, was nice, but the mice also thought it looked nice and ate the bloody thing, set the traps in there and got them, that was the joys of having a unit in the back of beyond countryside, luckily they never ate the wiring harness.
Above wheels, one set is 8x15 zero offset, very tight fit, but don't foul, other wheels are multi drilled BBS replicas, they are also 8x15, 195 55s on the front and had 235 55s on the back, unfortunately I have a very bad habit of buying too many wheels, I try them on a few different cars, get fed up of them and then store them somewhere!!! Found a set of Ford Probe wheels as well, they were purchased for a project that didn't happen.

Can you hire a car these days? Likely less cost than dealing with Mercedes anyway.
    Hoping for your best..

I can always ferry the wife around, she likes her independence, she won't drive a manual any more, hopefully Mercedes do get back to me, the part is only £200.00 less a surcharge of £36.00 for the old pump, Chinese pumps on ebay are £120 to £150 so if I can get a genuine part with warranty, thats the way I'll go.
caprinerd, your mates 20 plate car sounds like a mate of mine, 10 years ago, brand new MB and it would apply the e brake and wouldn't come off, to say he was brassed off is an understatement!! Friday afternoon cars spring to mind.

Think it's been a few years in storage.
Can't remember it having Luminition ignition, but it has got to be a bonus. IMG_20200411_160901.jpg IMG_20200411_161003.jpg IMG_20200411_171440.jpg

At least 8 years, as you can tell, somewhere dry, but dusty, or it could be the dust holding it together!!!

To free up funds, l am finishing off my MK1 GT pre airflow, it's a 63 reg car and has a fair bit of history, it will be up for sale soon, as my heart is more with my Capri, the GT on several occasions has tried to kill me, it's a bit of a Christine!!! On one occasion the fuel pipe came off the carb in a tunnel of all places and set on fire,l I was able to put it out, another incident was when the front nearside wheel bearing siezed solid at about 70mph and sent me down the road sideways, luckily nothing coming the other way, the worst one was when I was taking my youngest to school and a woman overtook a parked lorry on the opposite side of the road, she came straight for us, and because it's a 63,there was no seatbelts in it, there is now, must have missed having a head on smash by millimetres. That was a change of underwear experience!!

Holy crap, I think your car is haunted!!!
Not scared of much, but that would have closed my case.

And yes, that was a bit dusty :D
That's the same time as mine has been off the road.
But seeing the light now

    You mean these?

    IMG_9189.JPG

Mine is not orginal, but all norwegian cars should have these, mine is imported (german sold).
Or do you mean the triangular reinforcement plate on the outside of the strut tower?

Magnum panel. Had to beat it and trim it for hours for a good is fitment.

2.8i has these as well, so I might have pictures of those.

tbh, having seen what can happen under those plates, I wouldn't be fitting them ..
all the stress and strain is held by the towers, really strong thick metal, and then if the inner wings are solid, thats all you need.
those plates really dont do anything at all .. ..

I will be taking mine off to see what's going on underneath, then with the primers we have available today shouldn't see them rotting out in my lifetime, if they aren't there the question of genuineness rears its ugly head!!!

I know a man that after his strengthening plates were spot welded on, he got the 2k paint and activator and thinners he was painting the car with and mixed up a small quantity and put it in a syringe and he injected it into the cavity until it seaped out, 15 years later, no signs of rust anywhere and he uses his car regularly.

Bugger all, I have a very bad habit of buying cars and never parting with them, my MK1 GT Cortina is next on the agenda, that is a car I probably will sell as it has a bit of a Christine side to it!! That will then release some funds for the Ghia and the 2.8i, I blame my dad and Measham car auctions, the latter was where I purchased my first MK1 Capri.
