Has anyone else had a reply like this ? It’s not up to us to decide what you need is it? You have the car, the wheels, the budget, and only you know what you want to use the car for. Read and understand the brakes page, then you will know what there is to know and you Can make an informed choice. There are plenty of suppliers out there who will happily sell you a complete pile of crap. Know what you’re buying or you’ll get tucked up. We will do complete kits or single bolts and everything else in between. Regards Christ ! all I asked for was a recommendation on what brake kit would be best for a cosworth yb conversion. Can someone here point me in the right direction. I have an x pack capri with 16" deep dish image wheels. Because if I get an answer like that again I will scream. Dave
You should consider yourself honoured. Most people don't get any kind of reply at all from Caprisport.
16" wheels with a yb is the same route im going. I have there gen2 300mm brembo kit up front and solid 273 discs on the rear. They are very knowledgeable people and there products are brilliant, but are very much marmite to deal with. Me personally i got on very well with neil and alison, but i have heard opinions for and against. Chris
Thanks Chris I will post up some pics soon of mine. I went custom made rad n intercooler from pro alloy. Thanks for the brake recommendation I was thinking brembo 315 kit. I will probably get on with them once I order just thought it was a bit off... bad day I guess haha.
I don't understand the need for answers like that, especially from a seller, they don't have to push you into buying their most costly products, but could/should at least advise you on what kit is effective enough, incase you bought something off them not up to scratch. But hey ho, they do sell a lot of decent stuff
i got front springs, inserts, coilover bits and alloy mounts from them, good quality, good price and delivery. however i can't remember which bit, but a nut, bolt, washer or something was missing, my mechanic(mitch) also ordered a set from them so used the missing bit from his to put on mine. phoned the good lady to say we were missing a bit only to be told in no uncertain terms we don't make mistakes and it's not missing, he told her he had only just opened it and it was definitely not there, 'ARE YOU NOT LISTENING I TOLD YOU WE DO NOT MAKE MISTAKES'. but on this occasion they did, oh well as you say marmite
I have bought stuff from them ages ago over the phone and from eBay but am now banned from contacting them, so I would be careful what is said or it may well be your last purchase or contact after a purchase, I have since bought a whole load of good brake parts elsewhere without the hassle I got trying to get in touch with them I would buy again but they stop me somehow on ebay
Anyone know of a better brake kit as im worried about ordering now haha. Im not doubting they know their stuff. But I just dont want any hassle or to be spoken to like that. Anyway lighter note my coilovers are bring made by gaz in the next couple of weeks. Taking shape now I've missed working on the old girl.
Caprisport are the only ones i know dhich move the disc outboard. There are loads of companies that sell uprated brake kits though!
Make your own, I'm sure someone on here has the brackets and the source your own parts you can use the capri sport site to get the info on parts required and try eBay for them, fiat coupe calipers or Subaru calipers mayhe, tr looking on the forum also for people who have recently modded their brakes
Great thanks for help and info. I will have a look about. Want to get something lined for 2 weeks time when I get my coilovers back.
Are hi spec any good heard good and bad. Capri turbo thank you might well be interested having trouble deciding haha
heard allot off bad about them... AP, brembo and similar is "only" safe Choices... allot of "Budget" parts around, but then it is "always" not worth anything more either... the caprisportkits do look good, and use good parts, so easy and "cheap" to maintain, but that kind off customer service is not good...
I think they must use the Nigel Farage school of dipolmatic tact and diplomacy -- occasionally that hard on approach has its place but not on every single customer.... cp
Also can anyone recommend a rear disc setup to suit the 300 or 315 caprisport kit. Really want to get ordered asap. As my shocks are coming back this week. Cheers all.
You could always speak to the guy's at Gartrac...done fords for years and know their stuff. I've had Hi-spec and wilwoods and not had a problem with either. Caprisport didn't want to know as I was putting a Chevy V8 in my capri..said a Rover V8 is better...HMMMM ok right. eadHorse: I found them to be a tad Arsey...but some don't.
Just got a quote from BG development. Full set £2150 (front and rear) Ouch ! Plus I would have to sort out own bias valves, sevro and master cylinder.
Just spoken with hi spec they aren't too far away from me. They offered me a great deal for front and rear with everything hoses fluid cables etc. Im very tempted to just try them. Does anyone kmow the part no. for the land rover master cylinder. Thanks everyone for your help I can wait to do some shows soon.
if you have spoken to them regarding the brakes .. and they do know their stuff ... Why not discuss what is required regarding the M/C ? use all of Hi-Specs knowledge regarding the braking system, cylinder capacities, front rear and master, axle weights and balances .. Worst scenario is to take half a system and graft it on, then kill the balance with either the wrong M/C or pedal weights. if you are going to take a good bit, and run it with the wrong bits, you would be as well leaving the damn system alone and trusting with the millions of pound that Ford spent developing it to start with !!!
I fitted Hi-spec 4-pot calipers, they worked well and were good quality, it was on a Mk2 Escort so a much lighter car than a Capri. The only thing I was surprised at was the size of the pads was really no bigger than a standard 2.8i pad. From memory reading all the info on Caprisport, what really makes the difference to braking ability is the swept area of the disc, ie the caliper/pad size, much bigger pads are needed. So they might not give you much better braking performance than a standard 2.8 (well setup with braided hoses etc) Capri.
I did ask them, they said a lot of people use the land rover one which will be fine. Also he said for the size disc's I want he would work out the best balance and setup bias valve so I get the best from the system. Im a paint sprayer not a brake specialist so thought it best to run ideas by the great people on here first. One thing I do know is the standard mickey mouse system from an 80's ford could barely stop a 2ltr laser let alone a cosworth powered one haha
Stevep28 thanks for that I will ask about bigger setup. I did tell them what engine I had so fingers crossed they are as big as I can go in 16 inch wheels.
Dont forget its not all about pad size, the diameter of the disc plays a massive role as the bigger the disc the more leverage the caliper can get over the wheel..
Thank you im hoping to go for 300mm disc might take a wheel down and push for a 325mmm. I may well change my wheels again soon anyway.
300 is a nice disc size is 16" wheels. Gives clearance, pushing it up anothet size will start to make it all very close.
Will more than likely go with 300 so I don't have to drive down there. Going to order them on Monday. Might arrive before my wedding in august so when I get back from honeymoon the mrs can bring the tea to the garage haha Thanks everyone for the help. I must start a picture thread soon of the stages. 14 years since I last had a drive of it.
Hi spec conversion picked up today. Popped down to tickover as i was in the area and sorted me out with some extra bolts. Thank you again. My baby will be sitting on its tyres again tomorrow. I will work out how to put pictures up tomorrow.
I'll be interested to see how you get on, as hi spec are close ish to me, plus they are pretty much number 1 on my list now....
I opted for the HiSpec 283mm conversion and four pot calipers for mine along with standard 2.8 rears and MK2 Granny master cylinder. Can't say how they perform yet but the kit is very well made albeit a tad expensive.
I went for monster 6 pot 300 discs fronts with upgraded rear granny calipers with pug 205 discs. I had a chat with them and they said I don't need to change master cylinder as they calculate fluid flow ? Sweet if that's true The kit cost me just under 2k its a lot of money but if they stop me on a penny I don't mind.
fixed for you Bud on the page in your photobucket, click on and copy the IMG code ...photofukkit is such a curse, mine is always running slow and stuff but you'll get there ... as for the Brakes .. top job, it was interesting watching your process from one bad Pit-Stop, to the final superb package - it looks stunning
Thank you for that, I will learn on phototube bucketbook and all that haha. thank you for the comment im going to do the backs next weekend. (best keep the mrs happy and finish the kitchen first :-( )
