Hi all, can anyone who has done loads of mods to their Capri point me in the direction of a company who will give insurance on the car?

I’m waiting for a call back from Lancaster and I’ve even tried an insurance company FOR modified cars but it seems to be taking some time to get a quote, the modified cars one won’t even insure me as the ca hasn’t been on the road longer than a year.

I’ve had engine, suspension, brakes, body kit and interior changes. Even Lancaster seem unsure about insuring me at the moment.

I’m not the only one who changes engines in their cars so who is everyone using at the moment?

Lancaster got back to me with a surprisingly good quote - I judged by the amount of questions and that I had to call them back that they weren’t keen on insuring me but turns out they are ok.

Also Got a quote from Adrian flux.

Will do some homework/ check reviews on them both and make a decision.

It would be good to see what sort of money they are charging. Ive got a project car (non Capri) Im hoping to drop a V8 into but still weighing up the factors so i can decide , one of them being likely insurance cost.

I use COOPS Insurance for my V8 Capri, all mods declared including engine upgrades, brakes, custom dashboard and the rollcage. Agreed value, and was just under £300 a year fully comp (limited milage) :)

I’ve tried loads now and have 3x winners:

    Adrian flux
    Lancaster
    coops

The person I spoke to from coops new exactly what I was talking about regarding the car and was practically telling me what mods I’d done to it before I told him. Said he had been to “oh so retro” south of the river and saw a red xpack Nissan engined capri so at least HE new what to picture in his head when I was talking to him.
The other phone calls to Adrian and Lancaster seemed to be the typical call centre type of call but that aside still came with great quotes.

Flux was easy to get a quote from and were almost the cheapest but some of the reviews online say they are quick to take money but can be hard IF you have to make a claim. One person even said their insurer went bust and had no insurance for the last 3 months without any notification from flux (only saying what an online review said, not my words).

I’m always open to give people a chance, everyone is going to have some bad feedback aren’t they? But I also don’t want to ignore warnings and be stung later on.

Lancaster were good and when I passed on my other quotes they adjusted their quote to beat the others. I’ve searched their reviews online and most of their 3 star ratings are actually just good reviews but with stupid conplaints such as the phone call was too long winded.

Haven’t searched reviews for coop yet.

A-plan sadly couldn't get anywhere near some of my other quotes. As the person I spoke to said about my cheapest quote "bite their hand off!".
Currently down to around £170 for 3k limited mileage, all mods declared, breakdown, legal, euro cover, agreed value all included. 31y/o with 1 accident (not at fault) 2 years ago. Hoping to maybe get it a little lower ;)

According to classicline the NCB doesn't make a difference, but they will keep it "active" by adding it to the policy so I dont loose it. I'm also in a very low risk postcode which helps. I guess it all depends on the postcode in Essex, though my insurance didnt change much between the two tbh. Have you tried classicline or Brentacre?

Has everyone who changed their engine also sent off their log book and got that changed or is it ok to leave this and just declare it to the insurers?

it would depend if you want classic insurance with limited milage and no ncb to be got,
or for everyday use as there arent that many companies that do every day use on a capri now

Its declared on insurance, and was declared to DVLA, but the DVLA just don't seem to want to change it on their docs....
