Well Guys it all started back in March '19 when I bought me a 1974 2.8v6 Mk1 Capri which had been off the road since '95 from Brightwells auction:)

I do like a garage with a pit, call me old fashioned, but your car can't fall off a pit.

Looking good! Its a pity that Ford didn't do the mod that you have by extending the drain pipe to outside the cill, and not in it. Finn.

we did that with Rumbly, but used steel gas-pipe, so its welded into the body, no gaskets, grommets or gaps !!

It's ok, when I uploaded the post and looked at it there were no photos. The photos obviously took longer to upload.

    Hey we got a cure!
most recently I decided that I was not willing to deal with the weather,,
I got a whole new solid roof from a very Nice Man in Capri circles ..
once fitted even my superior re-engineered drains too will be redundant !!

A plain black interior in a Federale Capri? How understated!

The Americans do like their multi coloured seats, looking like the outside of the Grizwold's station wagon! Had some odd (to us) hues available too if I'm correct. I'd love to know if the interiors were considered by Ford and researched to be market specific.

Where did you bring your drains out? I was thinking to extend the front tubes in to a stainless exit tube to the rear of the cill, I do prefer your solid roof option though!

HaHa .. for over 30 Years I have endeavoured not to have any kind of Ford Badge on my Capri ... Ford don't support the Capri and haven't for a long time, so I don't fly their flag ..

however = "CAPRI" down-lighters would be deemed acceptable :D:D;)

most interesting difference with the Federal crossmember and the engine bracket converters..
unlike UK/EU, they appear t have some kind of safety arrestor for the mount, and a separate reinforcement down to the frame-rail that incorporated the lock nuts !!
do you have a pic of the frame-rail mounting area, from the top, without the crossmember in place ??

gotta love powder coated bits ...

The only arrestors that I know are those on oxy/acetylene bottles :)
    I know that 3.0 mk1's have a 3 bolt fixing
    on the frame rails.

    yup - as I thought
yet another federal 'difference' .. built in Cologne on the Niele line along with all the others and yet .. different..
frame rails on all the UE/UK models had the crossmember retaining nuts fixed to the top of the rails .. with an option of three positions for 'V6 models' .. yours show not only 'no nuts' ..
but definitely no 3 nuts for the 3ltr/28i we have in our home market area .. ..
    Thank you

All my Capris have had three bolts per side of the crossmember, regardless of the engine. Designed to accommodate the weight of federal bumpers, I'm sure. :)

Can other US Mk1 owner chime in if this is normal on Mk1 cars?

on the North American site - they reckon it was a 1974 model year modification that also coincided with the introduction of the impact bumpers and also a change to federal regs regarding engine movement on impact!
There was also info given that on Mk1 when fitted with the cologne engine, particularly 2800 V6.. only had the same 4bolt (2 each side) fitting for the cross-member - I certainly missed that !!
    whereas the 3ltr Essex-engined variants always had 6 bolts (3 a side)..
on Capri II - all big V6 - (2800 & 3000) got the 6 bolt arrangement, however it appears that the smaller V6s 2000/2300 stayed same as the pintos - 4 bolts ..
was some excellent chatter on there ..

My stainless steel quarter bumpers turned up today all the way from Vietnam! Quality wise they're OK for the price $178.

I'd like to know more about those bumpers -- More available? Front & Rear? Do you need to modify something to mount them?

What quality are they, look to be a bargain considering it would probably cost £150.00 to re chrome one of them here and then they wouldn't be perfect.

I've just done a trial fit and they're good. The quality is also good but I had to shave a bit off the indicator mounting plates to get them to fit. I'm well happy and they only cost me £133 all in (will be ordering a rear one as it's cheaper than getting the one I got rechromed):D. Harrington's are selling the bumpers for £438! which I believe are the same. Jane Dinh who I dealt with was great. Hope this helps.

I bought these from CCI .... they look like standard brackets except for the left one which has a tow eye as per RS3100. They also came with extra brackets that bolt on the valance for extra bumper support and foglight fitment. 20211120_102438.jpg

Cuts out Harrington's and at least with stainless you can polish it if you scratch or mark it.

    nice -
Brackets originally an RS2600 part - I remember someone discussing the support brackets, and that RS3100 was never fitted with foglamps even though the facility was available ..

Yes I can see......the diagram shows the pre facelift Rs2600 chrome bumper/irons. RS3100 and facelift Rs2600's have longer bumpers and different brackets.
I only found this out because CCI sent me RS3100 brackets and Rs2600 chrome bumpers which are shorter, even the end bolt holes are in a different position and uses a bracket mount.

its a print out off the RS2600 parts book Aitch .. :D
the RS2600 was originally issued with no bumpers, then bumpers with indicators in the valance, then at facelift the indicators went into the bumpers ...

hey Aitch - I get the impression by some of the pics, that you are doing away with the side marker lamps .. I would have kept them myself as such an impact piece ..
If you aren't refitting them, are they in a decent condition - Lamps, retainers, fixings, gaskets, loom sections... etc etc ??
May I be so bold to request if you would sell them on?

I always like a Mkl with the dummy side vents, as mine had them, but not my car.

Here's a few photos of condition..... you decide. The rear ones are quite good but the rear of the front amber ones have had a bit of a bashing being out in the elements.

Those look nicer than any on my cars, and better than any I find in scrap yards.
