It's my last day off today, got up early and could see that it was going to be another cracking day weather-wise.

A quick call to my mate who owns Autohouse in Norwich saw my car booked in for 12:15 today. A while after this I had a (rubbish looking) new style MOT in my hand. While it was on the ramp there my mate called two of his mechanics over who loved the car, I think the YTS lad probably had a small accident about it.

Enjoying myself and wanting to drive further, I decided to go to the nearest seller of leaded petrol and treated the 'ol girl to a full tank of 4 star. The owner of the garage came out and was so thrilled to see the car he too dragged two of his guys out of the workshop who were also very kind about it.

It's funny, I'm well aware that there's allot of people who wouldn't be seen dead in a Capri so it's a really nice genuine surprise to go to a couple of places and realise how your car can make someone else's day.

And if you think unleaded is expensive...

A top day and I'm now ready for the summer - very happy. :)

P.S. The odd 63 pence worth went down the side of the car. :duh:

Excellent! The weather has been great and was out in mine on Monday. I filled mine up AND a jerry can and it came to about £105, so yep, 4 star is expensive!...and I thought shell V power was expensive! Like you, the last thing I thought of was taking pictures, but a cool grin factor though! :thumbup1:

That's bloody expensive fuel ! I didn't realise it was so expensive. Wouldn't it be better converting to unleaded heads and run it on super or even standard unleaded ?

I do run it on super with an additive (Castrol Valevemaster Plus) normally but just like to put some leaded through it now and again. It replaces the lead memory and given how many miles I do the cost doesn't really factor much. ;) :thumbup1:

Nice work mate, one day I will get behind the wheel of mine and the AA number on standby of course. Have to keep my old Ford fix going in the meantime so had the XR3i out for a spin for the last couple of days; its been nice and long may it continue especially for you guys off to the shows. I suppose we don't give enough to the Chancellor, maybe we should go back to 4*, might go someway to paying the bankers ( can be spelt other ways) their bonuses!

Hi there, yes, I've met Roger a couple or three times, he works in an area I used to cover with work.

In answer to the question, yes it is the garage in Poringland, there are others in Norfolk and Suffolk plus the rest of the country. I posted up a directory of garages all over the UK who still sell 4 star.

That one in Poringland is the one I use the most though I normally fill a jerry can - this is the first time I've taken the car there.

Reference meeting - are you at the Classic Ford show? I've been persuaded by a certain Stuart and so will be there with the car this year. Aside from that, I'm told there's some sort of show on at Sprowston this year and might give that a look.

    Cheers, :thumbup1:

Getting mine MOT's on Saturday morning after changing the rear leaf's and anti-rollbar etc.

Assuming it passes I'll be off to the nearest Shell V-Power vendor and then off for a nice run through the Essex highways and byways...........

Yes the poringland garage is ok - hes good on old cars with MOTs as well - understands thire differences etc- done some work on my Mini Cooper some years back - very high quality.

The Classic Ford show i may do - but I am meeting in London next week to find out if Im working on a new hospital project elswehere in the country - that sucks up lots of time having done it before.got a feeling its going to be over the summer-- damn -- but they pay me well so no complaints.

Sprowston ----- erm now thats got to be a definate

well catch up when the evenings get warmer ---- im always good for tea or beer if theres no driving -- im just past the wilderbeest pub - stoke holy cross.

    regards

You shouldn't have much trouble finding me as I'm on that stand - catch up with you then. ;)

It's very much alive and well and available all over the UK, there's a leaded retailer directory in the Gold section - must be at least 150 retailers on it.

went up to poringland garage the other day.

the governor loved yer car mate - he said it was better than new - result!

Bought some 4 star gold which made him laugh (rich) and then agreed that if there is a petrol shortage i can have as much as hes got - now thers a thought only capris running 4 star on roads empty of leaded fuel cars -

The garage people are very ok decent etc

Yeah it was nice, as stated, I'm well aware that allot of people would see any attraction at all in a Capri and it made a good day great because he and his mechanics were very kind and enthusiastic about it. :)

I keep forgetting, I will let you know, I'll send an email to the guy who was talking about it when I'm back at work. :thumbup1:

It's sad indeed but he should have realised that this is Norfolk and (like Royston Veysey) "that's a local garage for local people."
