After engine, 5 speed transmission swap. Overdrive gear will be good. I will share changes of car by the time step by step.

    2.8i 5 speed. 2x previous Capris.
I remember putting a modified 2.1 into a Mk3 1.6 L Capri about 25 years ago. It gave a good power increase throughout the rev range, more comfortable to drive with better acceleration.

I kept the original rear axle ratio which gave good acceleration but if i did this again I would probably change to the standard ratio for a 2.0 to slightly improve fuel consumption. This may be less of an issue for you though as you are intending to change to a 5 speed transmission.

You may need to change the propshaft if you change to the 5 speed transmission

you will need to change the prop if you go 5 speed as there is a difference in length to the 4 speed
