I bought this about 5/6 years ago and stored it, thought it was about time I got her out and give her a run. I taxed it 5 months ago but never got round to getting her out! now the bloody tax is nearly out.

As you can see she was rather dusty!

And after she met the hose!

Today I moved my other 280 up my unit as one of my neighbours had reversed into it twice at different times and failed to tell me about it!

She's going to have a full respray and repair to the wing and front panel, I'm also going to drop all the running gear to paint and polly bush the suspension.

damage to the front panel/wing, bumper and over/rider.

I was quite pleased how clean she is underneath, I was going to underseal it, but I think I'm just going to leave it as it is and just any scabby parts take back to bare metal and etch prime and waxoil.

I'm also cracking on with my long term Turbo Technics 280 x-pack project. The front is all blasted now and ready for any welding repairs. I'm starting blasting the back next week ready for the rear arches.

I'm also going to fit the stainless Janspeed system and manifolds to the D plate one after I've finished painting the running gear and stuff.

Quite a collection of 280s you have with amazing variety, one fairly standard, one slightly modded, one x paked and cossie power

My word you are a lucky man but guess it cost you a pretty penny or two over the years to collect and look after those rare toys, rather jealous of any of them, have you been able to get any info on which neighbour it was, scott

The X-pack wont be cossie powered as such, I took the rad supports out as there was rust on the rad support panel that I wasn't happy with even after blasting. So I removed all parts as I have nos parts to spot weld back in. That was a nightmare unstitching that without damaging the slam panel! I've also got a new battery tray and bracket that will be fitted.

The engine spec is, 2.8 block, BOA Cosworth crank and rods, low comp over sized pistons 2.8 efi inlet manifold with one off billet plenum and emerald k6 management and a suitable turbo upgrade.

I want it to look factory finish as you open the bonnet.

Not yet mate, when a new car appears I always have a look to see if there is any damage to theirs, no such luck yet.

No worries mate, I've been collecting parts since 1990 and I also worked in Germany for years and bought a load of old stock parts while I was there.

My xpack body kit I'm using was bought in 1993! and my turbo tail is brand new in the box in my attic that I got over there! It also came with the front rubber bib spoiler which I didn't find out until about 14 years ago when I opened the box to check it was all there! lol.

Very nice. Great collection. I'm surprised there hasn't been the 280 Police trying to tell you how poor they are yet. Great looking cars and great history. Got to say I loved them then and still love them now.

    that lower edge .......
try clamping two sections of right angle steel together on the bent lip (lower fold) and I bet you can salvage that bumper......

not wanting to be a picky clever sod but your diff cover is porous and loosing oil and staining from the middle confirms the pinholes are weeping
lsd diffs are expensive to replace / repair ... just saying ..

Cheers mate, I will give a Sally a bell at HQ and get one ordered.

Fingers crossed the bumper will be saved, I am gutted though as they did break the fixings on the indicator so I've got to do something to that too.

Hi Stevo, yes mate that's the one that I'm xpacking at the moment as she started to rust out on the front wings which made her the best candidate for the conversion.

Where did you know her from? As I think she was registered in Manchester new?

Any info you have on her would be greatly appreciated.

I took some better photos tonight of the underside, and I really don't know what to do, either leave it as it is and just touch up any scabs or paint it with the black tetroseal under seal or go the whole hog and epoxy coat it from rust busters.

It's original to have little or no paint under a brookie so that means keep it, but I'm no purist so I would treat or remove rust and use something like David's zinc182 or similar and it grey like primer so not so obvious from a purist point of view

If she is a dry day car only and is never gonna see water and salt then I'd leave her as she is and keep a watchful eye on how things look under there from time to time.
Failing that bladder her in waxoyl mixed with old engine oil to get it seeping into every gap!

Yep, I think I'm just going to touch up any scabby bits with zinc 182 and leave it be.

I'm going to spray some clear wax oil in the chassis rails though.

    Cheers for the info guys.

Registered new in Aberdeen, not sure if it was registered at Harpers or Cordiners who were the two Ford dealers back then. I knew the owner who had it 89-92-ish I think then it went down Edinburgh way. Last I heard of it before you got it was on the South West Coast of Scotland around Ayr about 3-4 years ago - it was for sale on Gumtree but it was sold by the time I got a hold of the owner. I have the Gumtree pics somewhere, I'll look them out.

There was also a 280 E28ASA that had a bit of a chequered history - it appeared at Martin Pawson's a few years back too, again missed it. The other Aberdeen ones I know are amstrs one (D111XSA)and two registered in the Cordiners branch in Peterhead D919YRS (on ebay for sale a while on the South Coast as a project) and E816CSA that was broken up.

Hi Stevo, I didn't know it was registered in Aberdeen for some reason I thought it was registered in Manchester, but at the time I bought a couple of other 280's so may be that was one of them.
I bought E928ASA from Scotland, west of Glasgow on the 1/8/2009. It was somewhere out in the sticks as I struggled to get the truck down some of the roads and into the steep valleys, it was a very nice scenic drive especially when the streams was gushing down the rocks and across the narrow roads.

Here's the pics when I collected it and when I got it back to Southampton.

This was taken in a petrol station in Scotland ready for the long journey home!.

She's structurally sound, with most of the rust on the anti roll bar cross member which the front panel connects to and on the rad supports and battery tray. Underneath was ok, lots of surface rust but nothing major. Lower rear panel and sill ends will be replaced when the rear xpack arches are fitted as I'm going to tub the arches instead of using the fibreglass infill sheets.

I bought a lovely Turbo Technics engine from Stu at Restore-a-ford which the turbo kit will grace the engine bay once finished with a few little changes.

Hi, as Steve listed mine was a Cordiners ford even has the pack in the glove box and Cordiners ford sponge. The first owner was Neil Cordiner and the car was a demo.

It's been quite a while since I've done anything to my cars because of a family illness, but I managed to get some work done this week on E928ASA the 280 that I'm x-packing.

Engine bay is blasted and acid etched, and got the shell on the spit and started removing the underseal.

It's amazing what you find hidden under the underseal!

By the weekend I should have the bottom totally stripped as Sunday I want to sand blast the underneath and get a coat of etch on to protect it a little while the welding is done.

I'll be replacing the outriggers with new, and the spring hangers from the guy that sells them on ebay, so I'll keep you posted on the quality of them.

She's quite clean underneath, I was expecting a lot more rot than what there is.

The only other bad parts are these....

This will be cut out on both sides and replaced, even though the xpack quarters will cover it, I will remove all rot back to clean metal.

Same on the lower back panel, but if it does go up further I have genuine panels that can be replaced ie boot floor and complete back panel.

Don't sell it Mick, the enjoyment you get when it's done well makes up for all the hard hours spent restoring it. Just knowing at the end of the day everything was done right and not bodged.

A little bit more progress today, got to say the wheel arch was caked in underseal, and did have rust starting underneath at the joint overlap.

It took 2 hours to clean one arch!
