I’ve fitted a new rack to my 2.8, but it’s turning easy one way and hard the other.

What adjustments need made at the nut with the locking tab?

    Thanks in advance!

I had this with my 3.0 Ghia, I cant remember the details but its a case of adjusting the valve in the centre.

Have a search on here or if no luck, PM Laser on here aka Francis for the details of how to do it

power assist in one direction more than the other almost always is caused when the pinion lower bearing cage falls apartas they are not very well designed or made and that in turn allows the pinion shaft to move slightly which upsets the valve adjustment. I would be checking the condition of the lower bearing cage first. Pm me if you need help or info on how to balance the rack.....

Thanks All. I made the adjustments per the link and it’s now sorted. This is a reconditioned rack that had lay in storage for approx 10 years, just did a quick test run and now working perfectly!
