Hi all, I recently posted a request for information on my first ever capri ownership on new introductions. I waa pleased with the encouragement I received from several prominent members of the forum in response, however I am still hoping someone can help me research WHJ19J a light blue 1600L.
Meantime although I have not even received the v5 from Swansea yet, it would be helpful to get an idea of support for the owners club that moving forward would be most beneficial in terms of buying rare/original and n. o. s parts if and when needed, advice on servicing and maintenance and on researching my/ mk1 capris in general.
Although I am new to forums in general, capri power was highly recommended to me and I wonder if all the resources available from the forum members will be more comprehensive? I am more than happy to join any club that compliments the forum and could expand my knowledge of the capri even further.
    Many thanks,
    Julian.

Hi Julian, there are some regional capri clubs that might be good to accompany the forum here. What area are you in?

Hi Julian, welcome to Capri ownership. The regional Capri clubs are a good place to start. What might be useful is making your way to the 50th anniversary event at either Dunton or Brooklands in September, whereby you'll find regional clubs stands (not sure at Dunton exactly) who will be able to mix in & give help & advice. Plus whatever event you go to you will be part of a massive anniversary celebration. There is no better time to get into Capri ownership!

Surrey Capri Club covers most on the southern region, so any questions please shout me!

    Kris

Until you find your club, the Bomber Meet will fill the cravings. Any Capri club would eagerly welcome you if you've been to the Bomber Meet. You probably should go to the Bomber Meet. ;)

Thankyou for the replies so far, I am close to Stafford and from the brief research I've done, I think the nearest club could be Nottingham which isn't particularly close. I haven't been able to find any clubs nearby in Shropshire
In trying to assess the feeling of members it seems like becoming a member of a regional club and being able to take the car along is more inclusive than joining a national one.
I will see if I can make the events mentioned too.
    Many thanks,
    Julian.

Hi clockwork, I posted the same request for information on my car on their forum whilst seeking views on which clubs to join. Interestingly someone responded to say the car was known to them but they couldn't go into detail in a post. It was suggested that the car was built at Halewood but was an import and that the registration suggested such. I have just received the v5 today and the date of registration and date of first registration in the UK were both 21/08/70 with nothing written in the special notes at all it may have gone overseas like any UK car with a previous owner to live or work briefly but it is definitely on its original Chelmsford number from August, 1970 so I'm still hoping for a previous owner to come forward.
    Best wishes,
    Julian.

Julian, sorry but in my first contact with you I may have inadvertently sent you to the wrong fb page ...
the real club is "Capri Mk1 Owners Club", and their fb page is titled the same ..

however I only just discovered that the fb page I have been following (and actually enjoying) is called the Ford Capri Mk1 owners Club, and is NOT affiliated to the actual Owners Club at all ..
the links I gave you above are correct (post #6).. and I have now managed to join & follow the correct page ..

I can understand them not wishing to post an answer in public to you, but I would certainly pursue them for knowledge of your car by eMail or private message ..
theres a chap Jamie Mooney, based near Newcastle who seems to know his way about that site an awful lot better than me ..
and PS - your car on an HJ code registration was registered in Southend in 1970 ..
HJ didn't go to Chelmsford until 1974 ..

excellent and accurate listings - http://www.cvpg.co.uk/REG.pdf

Hi clockwork, thankyou for your response. It seems i managed to join the forum in message 6 correctly at the same time as joining this forum as I hoped to ask questions to a wider audience. Apart from having to bypass posts on all sorts of strange non car related topics I'm finding the capri posts enjoyable too.
I hadn't realised that hj only came to Chelmsford in 74, so with the excellent link I've just learned the first new thing about the car.
It looks like both forums will provide all the information I will need as time goes by.
I noticed the other day that the car is missing what appears to be its passenger side vent grille on the dashboard, I'm not sure what it's technical term is so I can post a request for a used original one?
Many thanks for your help once again.
    Julian.

Hi clockwork, thankyou for the eBay lead which I will follow
I will be pleased to post some images and a ditty in members cars. At the moment I only have a few the transporter took but I need some decent ones in the next couple of weeks for my insurers so a good opportunity.
Im told light blue /blue interior is pretty rare although most mk1 colours by vehicles left won't be plentiful. At some point I will try to find out how many light blue are still in existence.
    Best wishes,
    Julian.

    Lots of ongoing projects
As a Southend car it is most likely from the Ford dealers at Kent Elms Corner. It's been there donkeys years, I think it was a perrys at the time, now an allen ford dealership.

Hi, thankyou for the information. Perry's seems to be one of the oldest ford dealers. Its nice to know that there is still a ford dealership on the same site 50 years later with all the dealership rationalisation and changing times.
    Regards,
    Julian.
