    >>> LATEST PICTURES ON FINAL PAGE OF THREAD <<<

Below are some pictures of my two Capris.

    Ford Capri - Mk1 - 3.0 V6.... sort of an rs2600 inspired resto (Originally a 2.0 V4 GTXLR)

    - Bought as a stripped down shell - no welding required, very solid and had original wings too!
    - Fully dipped and blasted, and repainted in the RS2600/German GT/Broadspeed color scheme
    - 3.0 V6 Essex Engine (fast road cam, balanced bottom end, lightened crank, polished and ported heads, etc)
    - Interior fully restored, with Scheel roll top RS style front seats, and springalex steering wheel
    - 5 speed type 9 gear box conversion, rose jointed shifter, and custom made wooden gear knob
    - Single leaf springs at back, GAZ adjustables, poly eurathane bushes all round, anti tramp bars, larger anti roll bar
    - At the front, customised coilover suspension with GAZ shocks,
    - narrowed and reconditioned 2.8i axle with Limited slip diff at the back... of course
    - Other things, electronic fuel pump, hi-spec disc brake brake upgrade, braided hoses, escort rs2000 quick steering rack (modified to fit), roller top mounts etc etc etc

Ford Capri - MK3 - 2.0... sort of designed to look like a 2.0s (but it was originally a 1.6 laser)

    - Plenty of bodywork was needed, floors, scuttle, wings, pillars etc
    - Repainted in Venetian red
    - 2.0 Pinto Engine installed, with road fast cam, balanced bottom end, and a few extra bits etc
    - Interior from the 2.0S
    - Minilite style wheels
    - Roller top mounts
    - Quick steering rack

    Pictures below!

Just out of curiosity what wheel and tyre sizes to you have on your mk3? It sits real nice, are the wheels 7x13 ET-7 by any chance? That's what I'm looking at for mine anyway but don't want to commit until I know they'll fit under standard erches.

Love the mk3 - I’d be tempted to put the S stripes on it too.

    Hey Ryan

Sorry for the delay in reply

If I'm honest I can't remember the tyre sizes

    Wheels are definitely 7J x 13 inch

I think the tyres are slightly stretched.... maybe 195's (rather than 205's which are a little too chunky IMO)

Next time I'm home I'll check and revert back

    Ben

Well I have been getting the silver Mk1 3.0 GT back up to scratch for some summer use.... however that's on the basis we are ever allowed out again.

Best addition I've made to it in a long time (and something I've wanted for ages) is a set of Scheel Roll Top seats

Really nice Mk1. What are the front seats from? And how did you manage that twin exhaust? Looking to do this with mine but the spare wheel well sits over to the right.

    thanks!

So the seats are Scheel Roll Tops - these are hard to find but they were used in the RS2600’s some of the racey Mk1 escorts and also some old BMW’s and 911s. They’re lovely seats but as I say hard to find! There are some on eBay but be prepared to spend £1300+

re the twin exhaust, I had this custom made as you are correct, alternative is to cut the wheel well which is not worth doing.

I will try and take some pics underneath to show you how they managed to navigate the wheel well.

    Ben

Thanks Ben, the seats are nice but out of budget for me. Photos would be great of the exhaust setup - glad to hear it’s possible while maintaining the wheel well.

what brakes on the rear of the Mk1 ..
seems to be a single cable type, but no reaction bar, no fulcrum & stretcher ..

that exhaust system design works well ... there used to be a company back in the 70-80s called "Motoplus",
would supply a conversion set in mild steel pipe at 2--1/4" .. was a wonderful conversion..
had them on Q6, sounds better, and the engine appeared to appreciate equal length exhausts ..
she is a beauty Ben ..

Am thinking you would have won a bonus point if you had started a thread for each Capri on its own ..

Bit late to this particular party but nevertheless, a great pair of Capri's, really do like the MK1, the twin pipes just work so well, both are a credit to you ;)

    Hi Clockwork

thanks very much for your kind words

yes I love the twin exhausts too... they just suit the back of it very well in my opinion and sound great being straight through systems

regarding the rear brakes, the rear axle is a 2.8i LSD unit which I had narrowed so it would fit into the Mk1

rear brake set up was just the mk3 2.8 set up that came on the axle I bought

not sure if this is what was standard on the 2.8’s or perhaps it had been changed / messed with by the previous owner ?

you can directly upload pictures to the forum, as you right your post - 3 buttons on RHS ...
so you can write your script, then knowing where your picture is kept on the computer,
press - 'Upload a File' - navigate to the picture, pictures and select them, doesnt need to be 1 at a time ..
you will see the thumbnails appear under the script box .. now make sure the cursor in the script box is where you want the pics to land ...
if all together - press the 'Full Image' button ...
they will all appear in your post - if youre happy, press the 'Post Reply' button ...
I think to upload videos, I have tried a few, you will have to use a host - I use Post-Image, then you can mirror your existing folders by uploading pics and videos to it, then inserting the correct code from there into your post .. its a bit slower, but it works a treat ..

so for that it looks like need to use a host ...

YouTube codes work OK directly written in your post ..

thanks Ben, that was 2009 ..

reet - I have checked a couple bits further... I can move/store YouTube links up onto PostImage.. and then use that code to embed in the forum post,
but that seems counter productive when you can link YouTube direct !
I cannot upload AVI or MOV files up onto PostImage, which is a bit of a nuisance - 2 things straight away, 24MB max file size when using for free,
but then won't accept an AVI or MOV file anyway ..
so, now my next wondering.... how do you upload to YouTube, and what file types or file size will it accept ?

The silver is actually "Dunlop Wheel Silver"

But I love how much of a light silver it is... almost looks white in certain light

    And you can't beat a satin black bonnet on a MK1!!! ;)

    Hi everyone!

So... I have made some long-awaited changes to my MK1.

I know that this may divide opinion, but I have converted to quad headlamps.

I have always loved this look, especially with the early RS2600 bezels (which you will notice are slightly different to those on the GXL and RS3100) and I just think it makes the car look much more agressive.

When I finally located some of the early RS2600 bezels from a contact in Europe... I decided to go for it.

I should add this my MK1 is not original and never has been (as I bought the car as a shell with no engine, no axles, no suspension, drivetrain etc).

For this reason, I am lucky to treat this car as a blank canvas and from the start I have always approached it with ... "If I could design this car from the factory to be perfect for me... then what would it be like"

If the car was very original, then I would have not done this of course! As there are "too few" really original MK1 capris left now :(

    .........................

Please note.... the bonnet DOES need repainting (she's in the paint shop now actually)... I don't intend to be leaving it in "primer white" :D:D:D

You will also notice I have had some work done on the front valance... which again is being repainted and sorted at the paint shop right now!

    Excellent
Cibie H4 outers .. inner lamps?

and I like your ‘story-telling’ style as well..
Just how I felt about my mk1 all the years ago, when I was lucky to find a blank shell.. wish my skills had been better then is all ..

    Thanks clockwork

the lamps are Lucas h4 and h1’s

which is good because they have that “domed” lens rather than the squared off lens you get on some of the round spots

How you got them wired Ben?
PreFacelift wiring & switches will need relays
I have conversion drawings if you need them to split the load

    What system is employed now?
Is it the small fusebox on the inner wing,
    6 fuses?
    Standard original preFacelift?

All my drawings are on the laptop, I only have my phone here... 14-15th ok time wise?

    No probs,
When you altered the front for the quads, did you fit full size buckets like the Facelift, or has each lamp unit just got its own little protective bowl behind ( thinking, home for relays!)

Each headlight has its own bowl
I used the metal bowl and light set up out of a Triumph stag!

Ok that, we need to find a home for a standard 5pin relay, each side to switch the dip feed to the main beam element in the H4 when you select ‘main’ on the stalk. Having one wire feeding the main beam in both lamps will overload the wire back to the fuse.

    Thanks gents

I will get some better photos in the day light this weekend

But I am very pleased with it

I know the "twin head lights" vs. "quad headlights" is very much a personal preference... but I have always loved the quad lights, and am glad I've made the change

Now just need to get her on the road and turnings some heads!

lots of systems have that joint..
I had a Motoplus system years ago on my Mk1, same thing.. keeps the post packing down to a minimum length .. really helps with setting them up under the car as well..

Few updates to the MK1 lately....

    - Custom shortened front struts by GAZ... has allowed me to get the low-down stance I wanted at the front without the struts bottoming out!
    - Steering rack replacement (binned off the old quick rack as with a 3.0 v6 up front, was just too difficult to steer at slower speeds)
    - Some interior tidying including a dash undertray

Also got myself a fancy new camera... so rude not to test it out on the Capri!
