    Hi,

I need a new exhaust stsyem and would like to have the twin system found on the 2.8 & 3.0 Capri's

Firstly can this be done on a Cortina MK3??

If it can, can anyone recommend a garage in East London / Essex who can sort this for me?

    Thanks,
    Tony

in South Africa they had 3.0 Cortina`s (XR6) but im sure these ran single pipes is it just for look or was it to get a little more performance from it

It could be worth speaking to Sportex or one of their stockists. Im not sure how the underside layout of a 3 litre Mk3 cortina differs I think it is a fairly safe bet that a pair of 3 litre capri exhausts could be made to fit fine with the odd bit of cutting and sleeving.

would be thinking best look at where the exhaust runs now, even some good detail pics undr the floor,
dodging the axle & arms will no doubt be the 'challenge', after that getting past the fuel tank if its under the boot floor.
as its 'standard as a V6, getting the downpipes from heads to under the floor will be easy, but I take it they usually come
together in a Y near end of the gearbox, and a single system, not unlike granada, to exit in the usual corner.
I would investigate where the existing body brackets are, then check to see if you can mimic on the other side..
just be conscious of fuel & brake lines ..
get some pics up Tony !!

    just found this -

so straight away, dodging the tank is your immediate difficulty ..
reckon you would need to go with a fuel cell in the boot to get around that, but you would then need to create a firewall
between the boot and the cabin..
Where are you based, the above pic was by 'Profusion Exhausts' by heathrow (J14/M25)
if you were up here I would certainly be sending you to C&C in Hillington

I have a Mk5 2.3 Ghia with twin pipes, l profess that l did not do the butchery to the car, it has had the fuel tank removed and a mini fuel tank put in the boot, it does sound good, BUT another project where it will be going back to standard, with the fuel tank in situ, there is very little room, but you could do what a lot of modern car companies do and put a link exhaust to your existing exhaust, l have a Mk5 2.0 Ghia in for repairs, I'll look under that tomorrow, to see what is achievable, you could always go for twin side exit exhausts.

Yes, didn’t think of the fuel tank - may have to rethink this as I don’t want to butcher the car.

    Thanks
