Hi, currently in the process of doing a full nut and bolt Resto on my recent Capri purchase about 3 weeks in the car is fully stripped body work prepped halfway through building the engine and restoring all the parts, it’s now time to apply paint to the car so I’m looking for some help finding the actual paint code or colour, if anyone could help I would really appreciate it I’ll attach a photo of the car before I started so this may help.
paint code - look in the boot, lift the false floor, there should be a paper label on the left hand side.. will have a code (XSC123?) a description, and a manufacturers name .. the XSC code is as accurate as it gets, as it compensates for shade & tint variants along the way .. paint codes on the colour tags tend to be date sensitive too, so you will need to know the factory date too ..
The honourable member for elastictrickery has spoken wise words, take a picture of the label in the boot & the body tag plate on the slam panel, they are your go to references to determine what you need
So for late reply all, been working on the Capri all day that paint code is no where to be found in the boot, someone has obviously misplaced it in the past any other suggestions, would be much appreciated
take one of the rear seat rear cushions off & see if the build sheet is still there .. single 10mm nut under a flap in the rear carpet the full seat cushion will lift off the metal backing ... after that the closest you will get is the colour code letter on the colour plate, and the date code letters.. will give you the colour description in that year ..
Okay I’ll have a look thanks for the help, I need it to match 100% as I’m going all out on this Resto down to the last nut will be uploading pics of the build soon
if its a full resto - then it will be a full paint job, so nothing to blend in.. bare shell respray, so you can pick the nearest shade, it will still be Paris Blue
Okay thanks for the help I was under the influence it was either glacier or arctic blue? As it’s the lighter shade?
Brill, looks a good base & nice to see another being saved I did this only to read the paper and find it was a sheet for a car 2 digits after my vin. Colour & details were all the same and i came to the conclusion they were just stuffed in and buttoned up. . . it was great to see it was all there but not quite the result i expected . . .
If there is no paint code in boot, just take the petrol flap off and get it scanned, if it hasn't faded too much!! Also taking into account that it may not be in original paint, get the inside of the petrol flap scanned, if you can find a paintshop that is open at the moment !! Also a major factor is the manufacturer of the paint, go for the best quality you can afford, MIPA is good, for everyday jobs, but not the best. Clear coat will also have a major influence on the overall result, like caprinerd, l have painted a few things in my time, and I would not recommend water based paints, just my opinion!!!
Hi there I’ve identified this piece of paper attached below, and my tag up bonnet front says d4, does anyone understand this piece of paper, thanks
Glacier blue on the top for sure, too early to be Paris blue from the factory. Not sure what the darker colour would be under the mouldings though
Any suggestions on engine and rocker cover colours, what colour was the engine when it left the factory?
Yeah I was told it’s quite rare as couldn’t find another in this colour? So yeah sounds like found quite a good one? Yeah it’s coming on well you just don’t realise how much time they require to get it to factory state
It is quite a rare colour combination. Engine colour should be grey , same for the rocker covers and sump.
Hi there Martin, I did reply to your email, not sure if you received it but I agreed to purchasing those bits, headlamp surrounds etc etc?
This is going well car should be fully painted by tomorrow, engine is complete, just need to do a few finishing off bits, then can start putting it back together
Charlie. Sorry, I'll check my inbox. I am at the workshop tomorrow (Thursday) sorting mail order so I can sort them then.
