Can anyone recommend a exhaust system for a 3.0 that actually fits and sounds good? Including manifolds.
In an ideal world would have got janspeed but doesn't sound like they're doing them anymore and the last sportex system I fitted might as well have been off a corsa!

Janspeed ate still supplying, you need to talk direct
Other than that it’s a fabricated system from the likes of C&C in Hillington

Haven't people on here used a place in Essex with good reviews?

Expensive but stainless, should last long time

Wouldn’t touch sportex...fitted one to my 3.0s...drove 25 miles and was demented with the noise.....went home..took it off and stuck with standard exhaust..

My experience with the club system on my 2.8 was similar.

I don't think janspeed quotes seem to bad to be honest now I have a bit of hands on experience with making exhausts. I've never heard a negative word said against their systems either.

I've got a choice of Sportex or stainless steel, haven't a clue who made the SS one, but the silencers are smaller and definitely there would be more clearance in the back end trouble spots, I may have liked noise in the 80s, but l am now in my 50s, so I think it will be trial and error, the 2.8i has its original system, but it's a bit flakey, think the internals may just have dissentegrated, got tinitus, so the Sportex may not to me be annoying, time will tell, my Mkl l ran with out any rear box or over axle pipes, to a 17 year old it sounded ace, I did eventually buy a rear silencer and cross over pipes, but a lot of the time the car was 4 up and not exactly doing the correct speeds, so it seemed like that system would clonk and rattle depending how many were in the car.

The rear silencers look to be a perfect size, well the whole car looks to be perfect.

Pardon ones ignorance, but are the 3.0 Janspeeds a straight replacement for stock exhausts, thinking fitting wise & also do they give the same sound ?

Not after a performance upgrade with an auto Ghia, just might be tempted to get some as my standard mild steel ones wont last forever, get them while you can type of thing

Just as a bit of a follow up to this that others may find useful, I finally got round to ordering the exhausts for my 3.0 today. Crystal was really helpful & got back to me with the info quickly as I had a few questions.

Mine being an auto Ghia, I wasn't after maximum performance & overly loud noise, just good quality replacement stainless exhausts for when my at least 7 year old mild steel ones are past their best, be it next week or in 2 years time.

Also, I was a bit confused if they would fit my standard Ford manifolds as this old Burton Power link says you need the Janspeed manifolds to fit .... Janspeed stainless steel system: Ford Capri V6 (burtonpower.com)

Here's the summary of the info Crystal gave me .....

We do make a stainless steel system for the Capri. It is all stainless steel including the welds and is a direct replacement.

    I’ve spoken to our team and they have advised the following;

SS657 exhaust will fit standard Capri 3.0 manifolds. It’s the 2.8i that requires both parts.

The exhaust is also road legal, so there won’t be a loud growl from it. It won’t sound like a racing car

Yes, the prices quoted are for a pair of each (twin exhausts & twin manifolds).

We currently have the exhaust in stock (SS657), but the manifolds (SM319) would be 4-6 weeks lead time.

    SS657 - Exhaust - £464.00 + VAT
    SM319 - Manifold) - £485.00 + VAT (if required)

    UK mainland delivery - £25.00 + VAT

This is near identical to the reply I got from them!
I'm yet to actually order any as other things have taken priority as per usual

You must listen to the "note" of a stainless steel system, to probably 98% of people, they sound exactly the same as original, they do not.
Hope yours meets your expectations LF.
Also a glass to me is half full not half empty ie I'm an optimist, although it may not seem like it.

I've got a SS system to go on my Ghia, when the patterns fail and a Sportex complete system for the 2.8i, but having heard the negatives, I'm a bit reluctant to fit it, again the original system is still serviceable.

My Special had a Sportex system and CCI manifolds on it when I bought the car, far too loud and boomy for my liking, I ordered a pair of manifolds and a full system from Janspeed and also opted for the fully polished finish. Fitted them a couple of weeks ago and the car sounds much much better. I still have some faffing about to do with rubbers to get the tailpipes to sit nearer the rear valance but on the whole very pleased.

Just a little more info for future reference. The Janspeed exhausts arrived as planned on Monday, very well packaged as you would expect, both sides come in 3 separate sections & also a bag of fittings.

E-mailed Crystal to thank her for her help & enquired about what warranty they have, answer was a 5 year warranty but they are designed to last for the life of the car.

And no I'm not on commission :)

its a good result Flash.. and in the great scheme of things a decent price with an awesome warranty..
Its good when you get the chance to fit a decent bit of kit, with a bit of knowledge that theres a back-up ..
I went custom fabricate with mine - 2 reasons, 1 the car is not standard! 2 mine, and other peoples experience with the company involved..
I still have that system on the shelf now, it was originally connected to a set of custom headers built in 2002, and one of the owners of the company was an apprentice in the company that built them
now with the rebuild, the same engine going back in, bit slight reposition, but totally different headers will be fitted.. I know that my car will have the system they built originally, refitted and altered to suit the new arrangement...
there will be a cost obviously for the modifications, but the system is still guaranteed for the full time I own the car..
the guys at C&C are just brilliant..

    Unfortunately, it’s the only way..
Spend wisely, spend once.. crucially, don’t spend again!
Used to pig me right of replacing sh!t exhausts every 18 months, and that on a daily getting jumped around in all weathers..
Even though it’s likely now there will be less miles, tin exhausts rot after they get parked up due to the moisture gathered inside.. so it would truly do my head in watching an exhaust dissolving while all is parked up!!
