[Updated 8/16/21, apart from June 82 I have all the brochures, added that data and also found a couple of errors I corrected from the first post].

I have been collecting the Sales Brochures 78 thru 82 and had some time on my hands so read through and compared and created a large spreadsheet. Couple of observations, some of the staff must have come from BL quality control and then add too many lunch's down the pub and you end up with a bunch of errors and misprints. Not too noticeable when you look at one brochure but ..... for example anyone want a Taxi Option on their Capri????

So this is no Bible but maybe interesting to some.

As per the title I have March 78 thru Jan 83, first here is the price evolution.

That is a very interesting read. Lots of time and effort spent collating that info - stats and facts like this can really help some with restorations or identifying their cars. Personally I like stuff like this so thanks for sharing.

a really well found set of stats and information, like reading that stuff ..

but .. the Mk111 was never launched .. Ford never called it that
Capri II got a facelift - was known as Capri 78 ..

check the chassis id - type
Capri - ECJ - year of introduction 1969 (build started in November 1968)
Capri II - ECP - year of introduction 1974 ..
1978 - no change to chassis id no change to marque ...

have a look at the Capri II parts fiche - note the added sections for parts change at 1978 ..

check Fords papers in 1981 at launch of the 28i ...

Every day in every way I’m getting better and better…

But although the stats are of great interest, the title is flawed…
Don’t make me pull out the Ford parts fiche for same…

I am disgusted with myself that I never picked up on that too :p It’s the same with the Mk5 Cortina - it isn’t, it’s the Cortina ‘80

I've got two and to me they are MkVs, always will be, it's like I have a 63 GT pre airflow Cortina, to me it's a MK1 not a pre airflow, what would it be called if the airflow didn't exist???!!!! To throw the cat amongst the pigeons, my 78 Ghia is a Mklll and so is my 86 Special, with all there plastic tat!!

    chassis id
    by the manufacturer...

Interesting this lists the LS from October 81 as having Laser fabric trim. Can this be fact checked ? From the pictures in the brochures Im pretty sure the LS was only available with the Carla check trim that had been used on the previous S spec cars and very early 2.8is, minus Recaros.
Ive never seen an LS with Laser/ strobe trim in a brochure.

In the October 81 the brochure still had the Carla trim with a note that Laser trim was standard, from Nov 81 the pictures were correct. I tried uploading an image from the Nov81 brochure but I am getting a security error, will try later.

OK updated the title and the original post, one thing that might be worth adding to the post is the colour and trim combinations available for each year.
