Welcome, very nice looking car, mine started out as a completely standard 1.6l in excellent condition, I know a lot of people would say I should have left it alone, but I've changed almost everything on it, I dont do standard,

Thats a great looking Capri you have found. It looks very original. The GL spec 'dartboard' style wheels would have been a popular upgrade at the time so quite in keeping with the way the first owner might have ordered it.
Are you going to replace the 2.0 GL decal on the back with the correct 1.6 L though ? CCI and others stock them. Im guessing a previous owner back in the day thought it just sounded better than 1.6 L. These days it's not the case as there are fewer 1.6 L than 2.0GL capris registered. The right badge will stop all the smart arses at car shows coming up to tell you it's wrong

So good to see another American with the passion for these cars which are under appreciated in US. I was impressed that the doors on my ‘74 closed so solid 10 years later (1984). I was used to sloppy fit American cars. Even my ‘76 doors (removed for paint at moment), were solid. Kudos to you for great choice!

I don't know how I've missed this thread, but I'm glad to be with it now. As that's a '78 and RHD, do you know how was it imported here?
From what I see in your pics among others, I'd say it's one of the best-kept Capris in the country. (I want it. Stand back. :D )

With RHD? A most curious notion.

well .. the English had decided to stop producing the machines for themselves in 1976 .. all production fell to the Germans after that..
and then USA market ceased and the germans still kept building..
Ford stopped LHD in 1984.. but with dreams of another invasion the Germans kept on building RHD only..
seems they thought they could pass a real invasion off as a day trip to cheddar gorge.. dont know much of what happened after that scheme failed..
