Just signed in for the first time-proud new owner of 1987 Capri 2.8i Special. Bought it recently from the previous owner who had completed extensive renovation work himself. I have very little mechanical or electrical skills, so very pleased to find one where most of the work had been done! My very first car was a 1.6GL also in red, so basically trying to relive my youth!

As said earlier, can't take any credit for her-the previous owner did all the graft! all I have done is fit a new throttle cable to cure a sticking throttle- as it turned out, it wasn't the cable at all, but a sticking accelerator linkage! a squirt of WD on the pedal assembly behind the carpet and she accelerates smoothly now. The factory fitted sunroof was sorted out by a firm in Bristol meaning I can hear the glorious noise that engine makes even better! pity we did'nt have a bit more sun this summer!!!

Really tidy looking car, a little bit more performance than a 1.6 GL though.

Hi Richie-Sorry,only just seen this! Yes, very close to you-near Abergavenny. welcome on board-nice to have another South East Wales member in the vicinity. Looking through your posts, I see you have a 2.0S-great choice! Could meet up if you fancy it, and compare notes-always looking for an excuse to take mine for a run. Hope you've sorted your electrics out-there are a lot of very knowledgeable people on here!

if you mean the whole cap - no! It makes them look too dark .. if you mean the recessed lettering, I think paint in Blue Oval Blue to match grille badge would be OK..
maybe polishing the recessed lettering would be interesting, but I could imagine would be a dog to maintain !!

I was going to polish the whole wheel including centre cap as I have a bit of OCD on that front, once they are polished, it's a case of wheel wax and NOT clear coat, even the most expensive stuff in the world, it doesn't last on any aluminium wheel.

ah! - a mate of mine did it to his 280 way back in the 90s, he did one show where other 280s appeared - the overall effect was to actually make his car look much duller ...
He replaced them with standard style wheels very shortly after..
I will try to find pics of it if I can - they will be in a shoe-box somewhere ..

polishing would look good but if your going to use it alot then as said will be an arse to keep clean so paint would be better option, but if your going to keep it parked up in a garage all the time then it wont take much to keep clean
