Just got back from a 600 mile round trip to sunny Scotland. Went to a Tibetan Monastery and camped the night just behind the temple. I was chuffing freezing but it was a very relaxing night.

Food was bait sparse but very tastes.

The most positive part was that the car was perfect, did not miss a beat. She did me proud. I even got brave enough to take her over a mountain and up to 91 whole MPH. I know go wild. Here are a few pics from the trip.

well done Mr Boyd ... testament indeed to hardy behaviour, not the choice of distance & car .. but the choice to come up here camping at this time of year!
600 miles, I know you are viewing these miles as confidence boosters and looking for proof that the Capri is able ...
Believe it ... ... a halfway-good Capri, being in any-way looked after will scoosh that minimal distance ...
just so glad you enjoyed yourself.. .. where was that temple, is it in Dumfries and Galloway, or a wee bit further up the road ?

Ha ha! Yes the more miles I put in the more confidence I get in the car. I think I have all the confidence in need now. Me and the Wife are off to Ireland next year for two weeks for our 10th wedding anniversary.

The Temple is, as you say in Dumfries and Galloway. A place called Eskdalemuir. Well worth a trip!

Whilst in Scotland my Dad gave me his metal polishing kit as my wheels were looking rather dull and in need of a bit of an up lift!!!

I started off on my spare wheel before I have a go at the ones on the car. It's gone all shiny!

So I have finally done it... Booked the car in for her new coat. I am taking her down there tomorrow for the final estimate which will include a new rear wheel arch and a few other rotten patches replaced with new metal.

She will be a shiny new gloss black when she's finished and they are starting straight away.

I need to try and get some dull bits nice and shinny so that the whole car looks great when it finished. Including the bullet wing mirrors I bought just less than a year ago. They are shocking.... I will take a picture tomorrow and show you what I mean. But take it from me, do not buy them! They look great but do not last long.

These are the mirrors in question.

Rear wheel arch turned up this morning..... And car is now with the painters/body shop. They recon it will be ready for collection in about 2 weeks. Can't wait.

I have asked them to take some pictures so I can post them up here for you guys to see.

    The count down begins!

Yes the stripes will be going back on. I will leave it totally black for a bit, then when the paint is totally hard I will put them back on. But painted this time!

I as going to buy a set of those, but opted for my current ones (for now) they haven't lasted too long either! ..2nd set in about 3 years!

Hoping I'll be able to treat myself to a nicer set, ideally all stainless steel (the only way they'll stay good)

..and look forward to seeing your Capri, when it's been painted :thumbup1:/>

Just a little update whilst I wait for the car to come back from the painters. I ordered some replacement wing mirrors and they arrived bright and early this morning:

I went for something vintage looking, different but not outrageous.

Will have to wait to see these on the car.. another week to go!

I went with stainless steel as my last set were chrome and did not last more than 5 mins... I am hoping that these last a bit longer. They are for a Morgan but I think they look pretty cool.

I have had to have the old holes welded up as these only require one whole. I will find the best position for them once I get the car back and drill into my fresh paint work.... Eeeeekkkkk!

..you'll find them not a lot different from what you have mate, they're chrome arms and SS backs.

Be weary, I bought a SS petrol cap from this chap, didn't even last a year..he is a good seller tho

I took a little trip down to the paint shop today, just to see how Jodie was looking.

She has a new wheel arch:

A few bits of rot removed, welded up and filled:

And a good rub down before she gets her new coat:

Their attention to detail has been fantastic... there are a lot of little circles drawn on the bodywork where they need have found high or low spots. They recon they will be getting the under coat done on Tuesday, then top coats later on in the week.

    Hay there

Favengers did this for me.... 01704 534600 just ask for Dave or Mike.

I had a new wheel arch and 4-5 bits of rot cut out and welded and the cost was a handsome £1500. It was money well spent all in all. I may have got some mates rates though, but great value.

MK2/3 Hybrid - Night Fury Rides: Yamaha Bulldog BT1100
    Just a wee update today.

This arrived for the boot lid. Just making up a template to make sure they go on straight.

Also, I mentioned a few post back about my old wing mirrors and how badly they rusted in a short time. Well this is what they looked like after being on the car for about 9 months. Only 6 months on the road and only coverd around 1000 miles. They looked good, but did not last well. You couldn't see out them either, but that not as important as if they look good or not... Right?

I had a set of so called stainless bullet mirrors on my mk1 cortina from the mg hive and they started to corrode even before the car had left the workshop, scott

I was planning on rubbing them down and painting them gloss black, but they were so far gone I just binned them.

Thanks all for your comments... I am a very happy man.

Just a few little running problems to sort out, she is getting an electronic ignition fitted today and a new thermostat. I had my local garage check for any head gasket breaks but he seems happy that its in good shape, so we believe that the over heating and over revving was due to bad ignition timing, a leak in the pipe to the thermostat, a dodgy rad cap and maybe the thermostat it's self.

So we are setting up the timing again with the addition of the AcuSpark kit and changing some hoses and the thermostat. We will see how she runs after that.

So the ignition kit was a £35 very well spent, car starts right of the button now and timing is perfect.

The new thermostat and pipes are in and everything seems to be running just fine. Though did find a hair line crack in the thermostat housing, which became a nice big crack what we took it off. So it's over to the "parts wanted" section to see if I can locate another one.

So the temperature it holding lower than ever and she is running like a dream. I took her for a spin today since the repairs have been finished, just to make sure she was up to it.

All I had to do was top up the water as I lost some during the thermostat change over and the temp issue was done and no over revving. The issues I found today were a slight pinking and a massive judder from the steering wheel once I got up to 40.

The pinking will be sorted next week with a slight adjustment to the timing. As for the shudder, it turned out to be a sticking calliper which was gripping the wheel and shaking me to bits. after driving round for a bit it freed and the breaks went all spongy. After the break fluid and pipes had cooled down then power in the breaks came back so that seems to have sorted that as well.

She's back on the road!

Had a few braking issues this last month or so. I would all of a sudden get a shuddering coming from the searing wheel at anything over 35 mph. After a while I would have spongy brakes and would stop better if I hung my coat out the window to cause some drag.

So the car went up on axle stands and off came the wheels. First thing I noticed was that the wheels were very stiff to turn ( I do have new pads so I thought that could be part of the reason). But then I noticed that I had a calliper bolt missing, so the calliper was resting on the disc and most likely gripping even when I was not braking. Hence the shudder, me thinks.

So capri gear kindly supplied some new very shiny bolts and hay presto they are on, this time with the locking tab. ( I have not finished bending the tabs down before any one pulls me up on it).

Whilst I had the wheels of and was waiting for the bolts I had a little play with my polishing kit. Looks much better now.

Damn iPad never puts the pics the right way up, but it's a wheel and is round so it will do!
