great to hear
Fed more BS for a couple more weeks now.
Enough is enough it’s coming home tomorrow lunchtime.
I have called field motorsport, he said go get it and bring to him in the new year.
Told me 2-3 tops. Why didn’t I just go there first. Still it’s coming home to be pampered as I’m off over Christmas.
You were told
field motorsport are spot on
I know hold my hands up for being dumb dumb. The bloke was all happy and cheerful a couple of weeks ago, so gave him more time (stupidly). I done with them now.
I will be looking over the car.
Heard good news from field plus it only 5 miles away.
The guy sounds like a complete and utter t****r messing people around Topboss Performance Mk2
TB good news for you mate, gallon of petrol and a match would sort their garage out mate, oops did i say that out loud
we`ll see what BS he comes out with tomorrow when i go and pick it up. Just hope he has put my bonnet hinge back on. had to take it off to get cables under there for mapping. All plugged in and didnt go out ???
Make sure you bring it home
take plenty of tools, straps sheets and cloths with you
if the bonnet is off put it on, pin it and strap the back down shouldnt go anyway
It has bonnet pins on front so should be ok. Might take a big club hammer too be driving slowly to get it home for inspection.
Car back home. Few bits to sort out, Ready for field in January
great to hear TB now work can start again
glad you got the buggy home...
Now you need to out the Fart & the company involved to assist the next round of guys looking for help..
if their garage has any social media links - post it..
Google Review ?
Trusted Trader ??
Post it loud buddy...
He said to me get a couple of niggles sorted and when the weather is better bring it back, won’t take long ( I nearly pi*#ed myself). Weather was fine in September October and November ?
Now the car is clear from there and home reviews will be done.
I was always told he was the man for Cosworths not on my one ever.
Great to know it's safe, back with you, as though you are going to take it back, what a f***ING bell end.
wasn’t it going there to get the niggles sorted, he makes no sense what so ever
Glad to hear it's home, with all your other niggles. It's only proper. And, now you have place to recommend to your worst enemy.
That’s what I thought. He got new fuel pump, ecu wires and plug sorted and charged me £400.
Christ another £100 and you could have had a brand new plug and play loom
Best post I've seen in a while.
I don't know if it's common but down here we have abbreviated the insult simply to "end".
From 2ltr laser
To double x pack YB Cosworth
That looks incredible! Is it running and drivable now?
Sort of drivable, just needs the remap and working on spare crossmember to go power steering.
Took it for a spin yesterday to check new tyres for rubbing and all clear now.
what’s the timeframe between the two photos
What tyre size did you go for in the end
Came off the road in 2000-2001.
Had a few year out in between with operations to stomach. I painted it in 2008 just before my first op. Hold my hands up I did fall in and out of love with it at times and left it.
So happy with it now and proud I stuck with it.
Tried 245/45/16 then dropped to 225/45/16
I know how you feel I’ve completely fallen out of love with mine, haven't worked on in for a good few months now and I’ve contemplated selling it’s more than once.
I thought of selling mine. Sold the first Cosworth engine 12 years ago. Got offered 2k for shell too. Just couldn’t do it and left it a couple of years.
Had to finish it and it’s got me hooked again haha.
so glad you have her back TB and she really is stunning bud
Work started on cutting crossmember. (Sisters boyfriend loves cutting). After offering things up, you have to cut a fair bit off the up stand part.
Once steel tubes arrive I can see if any more needs cutting. Then strengthen it up.
Wee photo shoot with my brother in law and his xr2i.
thats some fine photos there..
Hoping to do another shoot next weekend.
With an escort cabriolet too.
last shot looks like a ford promotion shot in a mag
Nice pics well done for getting her back on the road again
Caught the sun just right.
Camera on the phone couldn’t handle the sunlight. So a wee edit was done to bring the colours back.
Capri looks great, love the colour and it suits the wheels really well. Can’t help but like my sons name on the plate as well. After all the grief you've had it appears your enjoying the car which is what it’s all about.
It’s getting close to being 100% finished.
Friend of mine does cake and made me this for my 40th. Really didn’t want to cut it haha.
aghhhhhhh mind the paint
It had a felt bottom all safe, until the
Wife came in garage with a knife.
I stood there with breaker bar “don’t you dare”haha.
i can sleep now phew
That's a good mate you have there, happy birthday.
a man of great vision & trust.. excellent ..
Proper size tailpipes on yours, as a joke on my 2.8i Granny estate, l put a piece of stainless steel Rayburn flue pipe on the rear of my estate exhaust, wasn't long before the local village idiot was enquiring how much had my exhaust system cost!!!???
The sun does set quite nicely on the front down there. Did similar when I first got mine...13 years ago now?! Though I was a bit further down the front towards southchurch/shoebury way. Sadly don't have the photos on this PC or I'd pop one up
Shame you don’t have them.
Can’t wait to get down the front for more.
Visit all my old boy racer places haha.
well penny is all sorted again and now its pissisting down
Not having much luck now.
Car was due to be mapped in Kent. Developed an oil leak (dipstick pipe ). Changed tappets as they became loud even after fresh oil.
Now a knocking noise from bottom end.
Not big ends or main as the are only 315 miles old. Piston Rings were new too.
Engine builder came today, he thinks it’s piston rattling (not slap as all machined to match).
He thinks the fuelling has caused this to happen. Noise disappears on high revs/load.
So now a strip down and find out what the hell is going on in there.
I’m very close to selling this thing now.
with the new big ends and rings did you run it in at all as the mileage you quoted seems you haven't
Keep at is matey, I too have engine trouble since I tried modifying it further however I will get to the bottom of it with help. Not as expensive as a cosworth repair no doubt lol but just as much fun when fixed. Get it done and I'll race you some time
Was still running it in kept revs low when driving due to it not being mapped.
Only thing I can think is small ends. They weren’t replaced.
Oh dear what’s your troubles ?
I will do my best to stay calm with it and finish it. Just when I was so close to that line lol.
Why did I go Cosworth everything is twice the price if not more.
I will be ready to race soon will rack up some slow running in miles over a few nights once she is done. Credit card is in for a spanking.
it will be worth it in end, truly stunning car
Worry over I hope. Went out this morning ready to strip it apart. I thought sod it I’ll run it up to temperature. Knocking got less and less.
Then it went. Very odd.
Let it cool down then went out again. Very slight knocking and hydraulic noise, once warm that always goes.
So test drive and all went well. Stage 2 chip (still needs mapping) is so much better and smother. Trip out tonight too to get the miles up.
This car is playing games with me I swear.
is it a boa or bob?, had my boa heads skimmed, new timing chains and tensioners, bores honed reused pistons as ok with new rings and valve stem seals, runs perfectly but they are slightly noisy running engines i find but it does go like stink when you floor it, not really run mine in but never give it too much tap untill warmed up
keep driving it i'm sure it's just settling in, are you using running in oil?
Yb t34 turbo. Changed oil after 300 miles.
Now got 10/40 oil in, seems to be a lot better. Racked up another 150 miles today and this evening. And still no leaks or rattling.
Filled it up with fuel again.
works out 130 miles cost me £35 (99ron)
Mate, that thing looks incredible ….. the cake and the car! What a result! Absolutely love those alloys, set the x-pack kit off a treat! Lovely motor! More photo shoots ASAP please.
Are you sure its not over fuelling as that only works out around 23 MPG. Not sure if that's acceptable on that engine but seems low for running in. Could it be your suffering bore wash - just a thought
23mpg is not too bad, l never have been a mpg person, having had an AMG that are meant to do 26mpg, yeah right, if you are a granny and you have arthritis in your throttle leg!!!!10mpg if you give them a bit of welly is realistic.
rover V8 conversion - 36mpg - Garmin trekker and a calculator .. humping thru France too
Wow CO, l had a SD1 RV8 in the 80s, was probably only 4 years old, 5 speed manual, it nearly bankrupted me, but my nickname in the 80s was Turbo, everything was driven like l stole it and was being chased, occasionally the latter bit was true,, l never did grow up!!!???
I did think about bore wash, it does seem a bit inconsistent on idle very faint blips.
Good map should smooth things out. Got some more running in tonight. Then I noticed it ticked to 500 miles in total ( those extra few nights helped). So decided to give it a boot full.
£&@! That thing shifts. Then a nice slow warm down home.
Good to hear you are nearly there and it goes well, you deserve success with it.
seeing as how the Capri is a tad lighter, and the carbs were set up, and all the choke sh!t and stepper motors and stuff was removed..
SD1 was a heavy motor really - Rumbly was a 'streamlined Butterfly' by comparison
Yes, they were very heavy at a 100ish it felt like a ship on the lrish sea in winter, the sound track is addictive.
Knew a guy that had an RS2000 which had a 9 litre super charged engine street legal and on full boost did 12 gallons to the mile
think I would still prefer Trophy's YB Capri.. not an ecsort fan..
at 12 gallon per mile i think id prefer TB capri as it would be cheeper to run and in the end its a Capri
good news and not too bad in the smiles per gallon department
The sound and it's a Capri, what more could you want?
Definitely big smiles per gallon.
Went down Southend last night to show these young st owners a proper car.
Absolutely packed there, took an hour to crawl along the front.
Had loads of pics taken of my car. Bit of a buzz.
Looking forward to the Ace cafe in August.
TB I'm heading down to the ace with a few members of a local club I'm admin for, I'm booked in number 30 I think or about there, will be good to meet you face to face mate
Cool be great to meet you too. I’m booked in number 25.
Should be a nice drive over. M25, M1 then north circular. Bit longer but hate that 406.
Finally I get to go to one haha.
same route i do from Norfolk M11 M25 M1 and then A406 north circular, like you hate that road and the Staples roundabout does my nugget in, i normally stop at south mims, for a piss but as ive got a few other EACC coming down in convoy i may just give it a miss this time
Have to let me know when you leave. I will aim to catch you up on m25.
Only done A406 3 times. Never again haha.
use to it as i was a mini cab out of Greenford so A406 was a local road for me still hate it the buildings all look grey and minging
last travelled a long time back, probs around 80-81..
Training college in Stone (Stafford) my Grans in Carshalton was closer at the weekend..
M6, M1, Hangar Lane, Edgware Road, Hyde Park, Vauxhall Bridge Road, past the oval, and out on A24 Dorking Road thru Tooting Bec
Friday afternoons too ..
Aye try that now!
Last time down was around 2004 to clear Grans flat.. never been back since, and see no reason to try..
Don`t blame ye for not coming back its gotten worse over the years.
Glad we looking to move.
Even driving to Ilford today filled me with dread lol.
some nice shots of the blue one..
take it the plate is D Boyd... rather neat !!
He must be a DJ in his spare time
DJ Boyd in the house brap brap.
D 8OYO closest I could find that wasn’t going to cost a fortune.
It’s more fun spinning the wheels on the car than spinning the decks.
Sorry bad line, couldn’t resist haha.
Well, finally got car booked in for mapping today. Get there and did a bore scope today and no.3 has water in it. Pressure test showed slight leak. Knew it was running off but thought it was just low idle that someone else set via ecu and no map.
No water in the oil so only tiny amount at the mo caught in time I guess.
I’m beginning to the hump with this car now.
Tommy Field said strip it down and he’ll check it over and pressure test head. Just hope it’s a head gasket.
I feel your pain, but it will be worth it, your car looks brilliant without even running.
Thank you, still contemplating getting rid.
Or just leave it until we move. Then I’ll have more time and spare money.
Will think hard.
Smith and Jones have an 800 bhp engine for sale £20k. That’s one way to get the wife to walk out I guess haha.
Wait up move and have more time ......since when does this happen, last time I moved was 11 years ago and still ain't got more time lol
My plan is to only get a part time job.
Wife loves her job and works from home, perfect excuse to slip off to garage haha.
Probably won’t work out that way but I will work on her haha.
you will have to let me know where abouts you do end up over here as im looking at starting a monthly meet on the A11 at a cafe called Route 11
We are definitely heading kings Lynn area. West winch, south wootton, think that’s about an hour away from A11 so not far with the nice back roads.
i would cut through to the A47 at Swaffham
hmmm - sounds like cowboys to me.. or is that only an alias ...
I'll get my coat !!
Makes a LS crate motor sound like a bargain.
Not worth the ear ache if I bought new head. Haha
Spoke to my engine machine shop.
He said I have to allow things to settle down and expand.
Pretty sure an engine is not meant to have water in bore no matter how old.
He won’t touching it again.
Going to start stripping it down soon hopefully it’s just head gasket and not a leak from the welds it had.
out this way i use an engine machine shop called Damico, its not far from Snetterton, ive had him do my head work for years now, he will do standard to full race, tell him what you want and he will do it, a trusted machine shop is the beginning of a good engine
Thank you, could drop it in whilst up house hunting for a few days.
It's a great pity we are loosing the machine/engine shops, but it is a sign engines are generally more reliable, the one I used several times has gone, there is a localish machine shop, but they believe in highway robbery.
The modern engine is more reliable fully agree with you Mr sideways but that's until people think they are tuners and mess about with them and then they become scrap metal
Fun times again.
Field motorsport are going to pressure test head and block for me. Hope the last machine shop haven’t ported the head so much it’s leaking internally.
If that’s all ok I can rebuild it.
Then back to field for a map.
Going to tidy engine bay too while it’s all out, never been happy with it.
