Nice to see - I was just pondering today what you might be up to. This will obviously get your treatment, I hope to be a keeper.

Sold the Lotus Cortina and had a 3 door cossie for a while.Sold that but still have a Mk1 Gt cortina which is very near completion then will start on this.I love 3.0s capris and glad I got this one as I've known about the car for around 5 years now.Good to be back

Essex V6's rule, well they did in the 70's and 80's, looks like a decent starting point, and low mileage.

Chap foose, that's a name I haven't seen about in a long time. Did the cortina sell to anyone famous or heritage centre? Or just a collector?

brown & crusty isnt so bad .. I was utterly amazed at where in one place the rust was so much in perforation, but that top metal ring where the strut bolts into is near 4-5mm thick ( ?) on mine !!
thats another reason I dont like the idea of those strut-top plates ... another skin just has more risk than benefit ?

always enjoy looking at these progress pics .. go Chap!

That factory rust is rather artistic! Blasted clean like that, I can see why some people choose to preserve it..;)

Glad to see you back Paul and with a 3.0s again even better! This looks really solid after the blasting, few gaps which you will deal with no problem with your skills but certainly nothing there you wouldn't expect after 40 years. Looks really solid.

Great coverage of your progress so far and so nice to have a project so involved to follow again.
The members car section used to be my favourite part of this forum in years gone by and this thread has revived that feeling.
    Please keep the pictures coming.

There's a 2.0S on eBay, £21,000.00, the underneath picture is smart, maybe not original, but gets my vote.

Black tank and stainless straps like mine but I have a lot more black wax oil dripping from mine. I like the stainless of the straps and exhaust against the black running gear and tank.

The 3.0s is panelled up. Cheers Colin Ginn for a top job.A lot of the panels he made himself including the nearside lower front panel from where it bolts to wing to where the bumper iron goes through, and the panel that always rusts the bottom of the rear quarter where it meets the sill He will be selling these panels soon as he has made a jig to reproduce them.

had 2 Mk1s with a roof aerial, cleared the internals nicely, but didnt have a sunroof..
done 2 Lasers with bee stings in centre rear.. first one was too far forward due to the roof strengthening thing, I fitted it in front on the ripple, was OK, but wasnt that happy,
then on red D66, I decided to cut a cavity in centre of the strengthener and fit the bee sting slightly further back, and it only just missed the lead edge of the tail-gate when opened.. But !!
Be aware that strengthener piece under the roof skin has a parallel piece directly below the roof skin, but very slightly separated, so when you tighten the aerial down to secure it, you get a depression in the roof skin !!

Is anyone interested if I dig out the Maplin self build kit I have here that lets you use the rear screen demister as an aerial?

    Looks easy enough to copy.

    I'd love an Essex.

Plenty of cheap, "hidden" DAB aerials out there:

    Outstanding Paul.
I loved your old one and was shocked when you sold it, hopefully this one will be the keeper.

Did you Acid8# etch the underneath before the epoxy? or does the epoxy have the same sort of properties?

The epoxy goes straight on,no acid etch required.Ive gone for the Noval Classic range for the epoxy as its as hard as nails the following day as some take a while, its not cheap £150 for 3ltrs but worth it imo
