After spotting a thread earlier about a ex-police 2.8i shell that needed saving ( now scrapped BTW ) it got me wondering how many ex-police capri's are still out there and wether thier owners knew they are ex-plod or not.

Does anyone know of/own/have owned a ex-police capper?

    Steve :)

Didn't one chap get done recently for impersonating a police officer whilst driving a police liveried Capri?

EDIT: Link to the story, is he on here? Seems he nearly got away with it too as there were other vintage police cars there for some reason. Some cojones that man, maybe Nick can give him complimentary Gold Membership when he gets out!

I used my first Capri for an undercover car a few times when I was police :busted_cop: , and my current car has been designated the "chase car" in a few cases I worked with the police. (And in a few situations when I wasn't working, it got designated as the "chased" car :driver:  ...)

Ahhh yes thats it, would anyone happen to have a copy of the episode at all?

I've just done a quick scout on the DVLA database an have confirmed 18 KVM capri's, most in white, but there is 1-black, 1-red and 1-blue.
A fair few of them were only on the road for 3 to 4 years!

i have it on video somewhere. its not on youtube either.

shame cos its a very good piece of footage.

Mark Smethurst is the owner and i met him and got photos of kvm when i was around 12. He let me sit in the car and use all the sirens and put all the flashing lights on etc. A very pleasent guy.

Neve seen it again since but im fairly sure he still has it.

Ive got one!! . Ex-GMP Police car on an A reg. Yes i knew it was an ex police car when i bought it as felt it sort of, adds to the charm really!! Do wonder how many are still out there though.
I read that story about that guy getting done for impersonating Police .... Why would you want to impersonate Police?! Bit sad in my opinion!!

Strathclyde Police had 3x Mk2 Capris back in the day, 1 was blue with a black vinyl roof, and just aerials, the other 2 were proper jam sandwich 'uniform' cars ..
they were consequetive number plates ... 813S, 814S & 815S ... but for the life of me cant remember the front 3 letters ....
always sounded good especially when they came off the bride hooked left and accelerated up Pitt Street ...
    wonder where now?
