It's what real men smell of!!! I drained my Supra a few weeks ago, I stunk of petrol, and I'm not a mamby pamby, but i wished I had worn gloves, I had to have more than one shower on the same day!!!

It's the other way round here. Our garage has a door that opens onto the kitchen. Whenever I bring the car home my husband tells me to shut the door to keep the smell of the car out of the house. But I like the smell of my car.

joking aside.. all your rubber fuel hoses - check & replace as necessary.

Apparently worse when parked up for long periods, the fuel does degrade quickly nowadays, and it eats old traditional hoses for fun..
make sure that all your rubber hose sections conform to SAE J30 R9 ...
so thats the bits between the steel pipe and pump, the pump & the carb, the carb and the fuel return.. and those little 2inch sections between the hard pipes down the route, and onto the tank..
don't lose that beaut to sh!t hoses ..

On another forum, a bit like the Minder Capri, a fully restored MK3 Cortina GXL, nearly suffered total destruction, luckily the owner carries a fire extinguisher, the car spluttered, virtually alongside a lay- by, he smelt petrol, the main feed to his carb had worked it's way loose, the actual pressed in fitting that goes into the carb, and fuel was spraying all over his hot engine, resulted in air filter and housing destroyed and started motor harness frazzled as well as paint damage.

I saw that reported Cortina fire on one of the Capri fb pages.. the guy had a wee U-tube post as well..
Maybe it’s an age thing with webers now, quite a lot of people finding the brass hose fittings being loose. Luckily There is an easy fix, the fuel unions are available as screw in items, gently tap out the body to suit and fit the replacements.. if you have a carb with a fuel return, do both sides!

Here's a link to Pete C's you tube channel showing the aftermath of the fire. He was so lucky he had that fire extinguisher.
