Hi, here is another Zakspeed replica project, being built the latest 4-5 years here in Sweden. Still some work to do (especially paint, plastic work, finishing touch work, I started in the other end compared to Paul here) Will be a road-going car, with MOT. Almost everything is changed from original, (except the roof) engine is a 4 cyl pinto 8valve with turbo, gearbox: type 9 with straight cut gear internals, It has a sierra Cosworth rear axle, Some pic's: Will be painted like this :
Hej och velkommen :thumbup1: Nice project mate :thumbup1: We are beginning to be a nice group of scandinavians here :thumbup1: Very welcome to CP
Oj, galna Svenskarna kommer här också :thumbup1: Welcome to CP from Finland too. Have followed this project from Tazzemans forum too. Very nice build. Love the rear axle conversion. Cheers -Hessu-
Looks awesome mate, glad to see a few Zakspeed projects on the go now. Keep up the good work. :thumbup1:
The conversion work alone on the back end is something to envy if ever I saw anything to envy :sleepy: Nick, there's far too many euroland type peeps coming on here with their bloody good projects of late....cant you impose a sort of 'euro tax' on em' to keep em' out!
HHssss, boo. We iz all european. Can´t we just getz alongz? :tongue (2): What if some euro lands are giving us decent tax payers some head aches and such... Cars and mech is a good way for us to get together, even if it is sometimes just internetz. Cheers -Hessu-
awsome looking machine :thumbup1: what induction set up is that turbo engine running? looks like a custom plenum
Another Amazing project imagine seeing these projects finished and on the nurberg ring in a few years time ?? I for one would make the trip just to watch this alive and kicking on a classic track day ..
Thanks everyone for nice words, And yes .. We Scandinavian vikings once again will conquer and invade the world haha And Cashy we already have so extreme taxes in our countries, that's why we come here I hope to be finished to the spring, a lot of work is done, but of course some things has to be redone, because it's all custom and never tried in reality. I remade all the turbo-setup because the old turbo was bad, so I made a new downpipe, and headers, Working now on a bigger rear spoiler, Zak-style. It has 788cc injectors, with Megasquirt 2 engine management system, also controls the EDIS-ignition, The Sierra rear-axle idea actually came from another swede here 'therealpinto' with this car: http://www.capripower.co.uk/forum/index.php?/topic/25842-1974-mkii-20-turbo-capri/ and it was tons of work to make it fit.. Yes chriscapriman the intake is totally custom as most other things is, Original parts or normal tuning parts does not fit then building this kind of project, For example: the pinto engine does fit exactly, with just a few mm up and below the engine left, (hard to show on the pics. The biggest challenge was to make it low enough, I achieved 18cm after trying many tricks, actually I needed 20cm, but it is not possible without a space-frame, Therefore I inserted around 3-4cm extra in the 4 wings, (above the wheels) for making it look lower, (for better stance) The whole drive-train is located 8cm higher up in the car, Some more pic's: Here is extra plastic material inserted: old turbo setup:
superb skills :thumbup1: left hand drive makes turbo positioning that bit easier :stunned: like the alternator bracket and trigger wheel set up, keep the updates coming as you go dude :smokin:
welcome to the forum great work i would love to see these zaks being parked up together and driving along together , what a sight to behold
A little update, trying to finish to the summer, Rear wing almost completed, missing paint + some details, and to make the engine run better, Will soon also be bigger wheels and new engine-management. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SihRwrkgSiU
Very well done Magnus. Obviously a lot of planning has gone into this to allow the car to be lowered properly. Credit to you
great work there bud, Some real good planning gone in to this.Keep it up. :headbang:: I could see myself building one of these one day <_<
Hi Magnus, am I right in thinking that gives you up to 100mm (4") drop but retains proper steering geometry and damping. Very impressive work, bet you spent sometime working everything out :thumbup1:/>
A little test-drive at home, (car still under construction) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87qVm3a7AjE
Uncommonly good work, mystifying engineering, generous wallet! Old American saying, "Two thumbs up!" :thumbup1: :thumbup1:
Thanks everybody Another (slow) test-drive y-day http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0M6H1ma6sh4&feature=youtu.be Still some work to do, and paint..
Some very good design and engineering gone in to that and it moves and looking quite mad :thumbup1: did you think of going the cosworth route at all ,can't wait to see it finished and painted bet you can't either :smokin:
thats looking superb ,and the rear spoiler set up looks spot on,great fabrication work as well look fwd to seeing it painted up
Wicked job on that! I've gone down the same compression strut route too and it really stiffens up the front doesn't it ! Although I welded a drop link onto the tca and retained the old anti roll bar, I suppose being as low as that the anti roll bar in yours will end up pointing up at the sky!!
Thanks Yes, I been thinking of an anti-roll bar solution, and it needs to be a custom one, placed much higher up than the original, and wider. will start to work on it, but now have some engine overheating problems ..
Still paint remains and MOT Will be a white base with some red/black details on and racing style, but not Wurth-style as everyone else is doing that,
Yes, the black and blue looks cool, just not sure how it would match my interior, I'm thinking more something like the 1983 Pentosin Capri:
Roll cage from http://www.wiechers-sport.de/shop/ueberrollbuegel-kaefige/produkte/ford-capri-ii---iii-b-detail Bolted together fits perfect
Same cage I want for mine in the future :thumbup1: I want their strut brace as well :thumbup1: (polished) Great build :thumbup1:
looks nice!! where did you get the bodykit? is there anyway to get the "bigwing" too? i am thinking to build myself a spaceframe replica... With durate turbo...
Brooki28 on here makes the kit and spoiler, seen it in the flesh and it's a beaut so that's where I'd get it when I do mine... I mean if I do mine
Thanks The kit is from CCI (UK), but I changed it a lot myself because there were things that did not look right + I added a modification on the wings so the car looks lower,
did you get the spoiler from them aswell or make it yourself ? if my zakspeed rep ends up looking half as good as yours il be very happy
I built the rear spoiler myself, where was none to buy, so I had to Took several months, still some finishing touch to be done, I wish I had done it with carbon-fibre, because it came out too heavy
An update, after the winter, now I'm awake again .. Does look like crap at the moment, but soon... (preparing for paint now, it gets worse before it gets better)
Please accept apolergies!! I have missed this thread and...........so nice to see.........some to put their balls on the line and go for it with such positive results!! Well done!! Very nice to see!! thank you for sharing!! Trev
Wow this really sits well ... Did you modify the arches by moving them down slightly or is it the suspension set (lovely!) that sat it down as it is , there is another on here thats gorgeous but doesn't sit quite as well. :thumbup1:
Yes NorwegianCapriNut, definitely Elmia next year Yes Doc Octane, I lowered the arches around 30mm all around to get the impression of a lower car. (it cannot get as low as the racer unless a spaceframe built) It is very important that it sits right yes. The suspension is adjustable and it will be a bit more low than on the pic. The chassi is changed a lot with all suspension mounts higher up on the car.
Then I must come to Elmia next year, years since last time :thumbup1: Looks good mate :thumbup1: :thumbup1: :thumbup1: :thumbup1:
Assembly continues, Trying out some decals, and plan for striping, Will prob order some vintage race-decals from: http://www.dmb.uk.com/cat/28/rally-race-vintage-decals#page2
Absolutely awesome Dr!! I can only guess the size of your smile when driving her, well done mate. Any plans to bring her to the uk? :thumbup1:
Stuinboro; Not sure about UK, maybe later, (it's a bit complicated to bring it that far) Below; In the shadow of a ferrari; The Zak takes part in a small commercial-film,
Not a huge fan of "body kits" per se......until now! That all comes together doesn't it as a "race car". Can just see that going round a track! You don't want to be bringing it to the UK though unless it's on a trailer! Our potholes would kill it with that ground clearance!
CliCon357 thanks, yes the car is less about the body-kit and more about what's behind, (all the work is behind), Had some technical problems on the race-track, but managed to drive some laps; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vl5YUwvSxs0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUSbi9jbZS8
I actually felt a frisson of excitement in my nether regions watching that when I heard the turbo kick in! :thumbup1:
Me too, from inside, when I drove it It's the best place, the long turn before the long straight, it is just to go full throttle up to about 180km/h on fourt gear and when hard on the brakes before it turns 90 degrees right I want to go back, and go faster,
